doula? will deliver at Abington Hospital

I'm new here. i like my OBGYN -Dr. Roberts at Abingtion obgyn associates, but she told me that she may not be the doctor on call when I give birth, and their c-section rate is 22%. I am ok to meet the other doctors and see what I think, but REALLY don't want to have a c-section if I don't need one. She just kind of nodded, but i get the feeling they have their policies.?

Does anyone plan to use a Doula or have they used one? I am a little leary of a stranger involved, but I am reading some info about asking not to be hooked up to machines ALL the time, and other ways of avoiding unnecessary c-sections. A doula seems to be a way to help. My dr said that they are open to birth plans and natural childbirth (i'm not really interested in natural) but i didn't ask about Doulas. Do they appreciate them (particularly at Abington) or do they get annoyed by them?

any info would be appreciated!?

I delivered at Paoli, but it wouldn't hurt to ask if she would go to Abington.

  • I had a doula for my second child (we had a natural childbirth at the birth center in bryn mawr). She was so awesome and put my mind at ease. It sounds like it would be very helpful to have a doula considering the things you are worried about. You can try to go on the national doula website or check with obs or the hospital and find new doulas or doulas who are still training and you may be able to hire one for near free. People who have doulas are less likely to have c-section or any other intervention and that in my mind is worth it.
