What BCP do you take?

I am really considering not taking any pills anymore. They really just tend to make me more anxious than usual and some other side effects that are not major, but annoying enough. Before DD I was on Ortho Cyclen for years. I didn't even realize the effects until I got off them while TTC and realized how much better I felt!

So, after DD was born, I wanted to try a low-dose BCP and went with Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. I am so anxious, have mood swings, and am always tired (probably cause I don't sleep from the increased anxiety).

I am researching some other pills online and am reading reviews. This is convincing me that all pills stink, LOL. I know everyone will react differently to a pill, but what pill do you take and do you experience side effects? Thanks!

  • I was on BCP for 16 years before TTC. I don't plan to ever go back on. Right now we are using the fabulously scary "pull and pray" method of birth control mixed in with some decidedly long bouts of abstinence. ;) Other than that, I don't have many suggestions.

  • I was on Trivora-28.  I'm pregnant now.  I wouldn't recommend it!

I'm limited with my BCP choices.  I have a clotting disorder and a lot of the newer pills up my risk for blood clots.  I also struggled with PPD and some pills increase the risk of depression.  I was on the brand-name Triphasil for years, but they don't make it anymore, they just make the generic - Trivora.

I was shocked I had no side effects at all.  Now I know why....they weren't working.

  • I don't take BCP because the hormones mess my system up... nothing really bad, but enough that I don't want to deal with it. My OB-GYN said that the only thing I could use without risking the side effects I get is the kind you get implanted in either my my uterus or arm. I'm not sure how I feel about that so right now we use condoms. It's not the ideal situation but we get over it.

  • I  was always on the highest dose of pill imaginable because every one I tried I always had breakthrough bleeding in the middle of the cycle. I was on marvelon. Not much for side effects but I was on them for a long time. Any hormone that you put into your body will throw it for a loop short term. Good Luck!
