Anyone not BF but pumping?

I am not BF, but I am pumping and using formula. What little I do make when pumping goes into his bottle with the formula. Just wanted to see if I am alone on this road. I would BF but he does not care for the breast and I am not giving him enough.

  • tons of women exclusively pump (EP)

i do, but it wasn't by choice. there is a weekly check-in on this board for women who EP- so definitely feel free to join. last time i checked we are up to about 75-80 women who EP on this board. so you are definitely not alone.

Are you making enough pumping to only give your LO BM or do you use formula as well?

Thanks, I will keep an eye out for EP. With all the research etc.. out there sometimes I feel like a failure because I cant BF and that he is not getting only BM. ?

  • Yes, my DD only gets BM.

I will tell you EPing is a lot of VERY VERY hard work. Especially in the beginning. if you want to only give your LO your milk you have to pump whenever baby is eating.

The first 12 weeks is the most important time to pump if you are going to EP successfully. You have to aim for pumping around 10-12x in a 24hr period. AROUND THE CLOCK. even when you are exhausted, beat, and can't see straight. that will help your supply the most. so you have to pump every 2-3 hours for 15-20 min.

after 12 weeks if you are making enough- you can stretch your pumps out a little bit.

I am still pumping and my DD is 9 months old. I am now down to three pumps a day and she only gets BM. However- i had a great supply because i was very regimented in the beginning.

    how old is your LO?

have you tried BFing? (it is much much easier than EPing)

would you prefer to BF over EPing?-- if you would- i would see a lactation consultant to help with BFing. I am guessing you have a very very little one since your ticker isn't updated yet.
