Several weeks ago, my husband and I decided on Aubrey as our new baby's name since we have decided not to find out the sex and Aubrey is unisex.
Aubrey was originally only a boy's name back in the 1920's, my husband has a cowboy great-uncle named Aubrey.
I love the idea of Aubrey as a boy's or girl's name, but now DH is saying he thinks it may be too girly.
What do you think?

Re: Aubrey for a boy?
I really do think so. This one has just moved so totally into the girl category... I've definitely never heard it for a boy before.
My nephew's name is Aubry (no E) .
I like it better for a boy than a girl and yes it was originally a Boys name. He is 9 years old and loves his name. Plus I have a great musician friend here in Nashville and his name is also Aubry. Go for it!
I think with so many girls who are named Aubrey, he will probably be embarrssed to have a "girl" name. I know in the past it was more unisex, but I really don't think it is anymore.
My in-laws wanted to name their son Loren if he was boy. I know it used to be a popular male name, but with all the Laurens there are today, they are very glad they went with Wyatt.
I am obviously in the minority, but I've only known male Aubreys...
I think Aubrey for our generation is a girls name.
But its making a comeback as a boy's name. I've heard of several younger boys with the name.
And I like it. even if it is so close to my name it makes me do a double-take
In seventh grade I was friends with an Aubrey, and for the longest time I called her Audrey, until she finally yelled at me. We were friends all through high school, and I really like that name a lot more than Audrey now.
Honestly? I'm kind of smack dab in the middle.
When I hear it my initial thought is 'girl,' but after finding out it's a boy name. . . it doesn't sound too femenine.
Sorry if that was no help.

My great grandfather's name was Leslie. John Wayne's name was actually Marian. The genders associated with names change over time.
That is, he'll totally get beaten up in grade school.
