How much help did you have when you returned home from the hospital? Im having a csection. I have a 2 and half year old and DH does not have much time off of work. I dont know whether or not to ask for help.
ALWAYS ask for help. I had some kind of assistance -- mom or mh -- for 3 weeks after this c/s. I was not allowed to lift ds for 6 weeks. I did it way earlier and paid for it with a longer recovery.

Ask for help. My DH was home for one week after we got home from the hospital. I also had a c/s. After that my IL's or my dad came over every day for at least another week. I think I could have done it on my own if I had to but it was nice to have someone else there so that I could shower, nap and fix lunch. It was also really nice to have someone else to play with my older DD who was 15 months at the time.
If help is available..by all means ask! My DH was home for a week when we got home from the hospital. After that I was on my own. I got a c/s and recovery actually wasn't too bad (faster than my first). I think we did ok.
None - our families left right after we got home from the hospital each time. I was fine, easy vaginal deliveries though. I would ask if I were you, wouldn't hurt.
I had an easy delivery with DS#2, and DH stayed home for 2 or 3 days, I think. My parents came for the delivery & left the next day. I was on my own after that.
I had very little help and it was bad. I know some people bounce back much easier, this was my first C- section and I really didn't do well with it. We had to end up hiring someone because we only knew very few people in the area and our families live across the country. I was finally able to care for everyone by myself around the 5 week mark, we still had someone at night until the baby was 8 weeks old though. The hardest was not being able to lift my toddler. Good luck and try to arranging lots of help if you can!
Not much w/ #2. My DH took a couple days off & my Dad was here, but they helped w/ the 2yr old, not the baby. I didn't have a c-section though & I felt good after birth #2...much better than after #1. I bounced back fast. This time, I will only have DH I think for a couple days again...and I'll have a 4, 2 & newborn. But I feel like it will be fine.

I had a horrific horrific recovery from my first c/s, so I am definitely planning on having as much help for as long as possible w/ this one. MH won't have much time off, so I am asking my mom to stay for as long as she can, and then I'm planning on hiring someone if need be. I'm anticipating at least 4-6 weeks of needing someone; if it turns out better this time (and my God, it has to) and I don't need that much help, all the better.
With baby #1 I thought we'd need tons of help, but then I realized I really didn't want it. Then again, DH gets 6 weeks paternity leave, so he was home after my c/s. My MIL came a couple weeks after the baby was born, but she just cooked and vacuumed -- that was it. For Baby #2 (which will be a c/s also), DH will be taking 8 weeks off and we are not asking for help. We actually prefer people to wait until a couple of weeks after the baby is home to come over.
DH went to work after a week I didn't have a csec though, I think it would have been a great help if someone could take your dc#1 off your hands for a bit & then help out with cooking & cleaning while u rest with the new baby.
If help is available, ask for it. My second section was scheduled and I had a 2 yr old at home. My DH was home for 2 weeks with the exception of a few evenings in which someone else came over. For the 2 weeks after that he took DS to my mom's (his daycare) during the day and I was home with DD. In the evenings that he was gone someone came to help me. I had an OK recovery, but could not lift DS (2 yr. old), do the laundry, vacuum, etc. for 2 weeks. Even after that I was very sore. I drove at the 2 week mark also but getting both kids in and out and lifting the seat to latch it in hurt. So if there is help available, ask for it!

None.
I did not have c-sect though. DH had to call in sick for the birth - he was off 6 days including the night of my induction.
