Butt pain - possibly sciatic nerve?

For almost 2 weeks now I've been hobbling around like an 80 year old after I pulled something in my rear.  The pain is in my right butt cheek and goes down the back of my thigh a little as well when I walk.  I've seen my chiropractor 3 times, have been icing off and on every day but the pain is not getting any better.  No worse, but no better.  My chiro suggested I get a massage to try to work it out so I am doing that tomorrow.  I am seeing my OBGYN on Tues. and will ask for other suggestions.  Just wondering if anyone else has this pain and what have you done to deal with it?  Guessing it is just one of those things that happens while you're pregnant.  Disappointing since everything has gone so smooth so far Sad

  • I had it - but only for two days. A friend had it through several months of her pregnancy and she said the heating pad helped her. Unfortunately I don't think there's much they can do, especially if your chiro hasn't been able to help! Hope you feel better.

  • That is def sciatic pain. I had it during my second trimester. For me, stretching helped it a lot. Your OB can give you ideas. One day, I had to spend the entire day in bed because it got so bad. The next day though it was gone. When the  baby moves off that nerve the pain goes right away!
  • Its def sciatica - the best way to alleviate the pain is to alternate ice & heat in 10-15 min intervals for about 45mins to an hour. Make sure you keep the ice/heat right in the middle of your butt where the pain seems to be radiating from. Use a heating pad on a low setting, or one of those microwavable packs.

    Good luck & feel better!

  • I had that a few weeks ago for about a week.  I did some yoga stretches which my doctor recommended and it really helped and I haven't had the pain since.  Good luck I know it is not fun.

  • Sounds like it. Sit on a tennis ball and roll around on it. The sciatic nerve is deep in the leg so rolling around on the tennis ball massages the nerve.
  • Yep, that's sciatica - I've had it since week 6.  I've also tried heating pads, which don't work, and neither does IcyHot - my doctor says that's because those are for muscle pain, not nerve pain, which makes sense.  Tylenol is the only thing that helps me, although it doesn't make the pain go away completely and I don't take it everyday (I know they say it's okay, but I feel guilty taking drugs every day, even though it is just Tylenol).  I've heard that a chiropractor can help but I can't afford to go all the time - sorry I can't be of more help, but let me know if you find a solution!
