Pregnant after a Loss

Flying in first trimester?

I'm pretty sure that it isn't an issue and I will ask my dr. on Tuesday, but I was just wondering if anyone was told not to fly during their first trimester. I travel once a month for work and its only a 1 hour flight. WDYT?

Re: Flying in first trimester?

  • Unless you are high risk for some reason, flying is fine for first tri.

  • I flew when I was 4 weeks pregnant and it was fine.
  • I took several work trips during 1st tri.  The key to travelling during pg is: get up at least once per hour (not an issue for you) and stay hydrated.  There is no reason not to continue flying until you are in your last month and most airline policies allow you to fly until your final week.

LindseyS travels a TON for work (I think at least one 1 hour flight each week plus int'l travel); you should page her for some insight on how to balance everything as pg progresses.

  • Totally fine unless you're on bed rest for some reason.

  • i flew around 6/7 weeks and was fine.  i would rec stocking up on barf bags though, we hit a ton of turbulence and i was so sick!
  • Flying in the first tri is totally fine, I actually flew several times (1st and 3rd tri) while pg with my dd.  Although, I'll admit I was terrified of all sorts of silly things that logically I knew were fine early on in this pg, and I opted to avoid flying at all during this pg due to my paranoia.
  • Flying is completely fine...I have been traveling a ton for work since the begining of this pregnancy. Just make sure to drink LOTS of water =)
  • I read somewhere that the radiation (x-ray machines, being close to the oxone) can be dangerous, so I was totally freaked out ... but, I asked my dr, who seems to be pretty conservative and he said it was fine, so I figure that was just an extremist!  I am taking two trips, within a week of each other at 10 and 11 weeks ... that's 4 flights in all!  I'm a little nervous, but I'm sure it's fine!
  • I flew cross-country at week 8.  I did not enjoy it because I felt so sick, but my flights were 5 and 6 hours.  1 hour should be doable.
  • I flew to Italy in late first trimester and to Cali in late second trimester with no problems.  Just drink plenty of water, pack some snacks and get up and walk around from time to time.
  • I flew twice this pg in the first tri - my doctor wasn't worried about it.
