Where did your infant sleep the first night home?

Re: Where did your infant sleep the first night home?

  • Bassinet next to my side of the bed for the first couple hours. My arms the last couple hours, I was a wreck! She is still sleeping in our room -- haha -- but the bassinet worked well for feeding and changing her every couple of hours. It was nice not to have to go far!

  • In our bed. Once I figured out nursing laying down, that was what we did every night for a long time. Now I start her in the co-sleeper and pull her into bed with us after her first nighttime feeding.
  • Congrats he's very cute!

Seriously in her car seat in the pnp bassinet. All she would sleep in was the infant car seat so we decided to stick it in the pnp. Also after a week he bouncer too. then at a month we found she likes her side and used a safe positioner and shes slept in the pnp bassinet ever since, its rough that firstmonth

  • He slept all day and now he won't sleep lol. I'm about dead.  I thought I was just going to put him in the bassinet and BOOM him sleep...well that was a big fat fail.

The only thing he will sleep in in his boppy...would it be bad to let him sleep in it and sleep right next to him?

  • In her pack n play. We tried the bassinett but she hated it

Sometimes you do what you have to do for you to both get some rest!

Did you try your arms? The first couple of nights I would prop my body pillow under my arm and cradle her in it. I was somewhat stiff when I woke up from lying in the same position on my back all night, but she sleep for hours at a time! It was wonderful!

That happened to us too. I started nursing every 1.5/2 hours during the day well basically on demand feeding, then at night she didnt need as much and slept, but thats after I few weeks she caught, those first weeks I was a walking zombie, they will work out night and days with help:) Itll be a faint memory before you know it!

He will so sleep like this! Just didn't know what was okay and what wasn't! I might try this!

    Thanks ladies! I'm exhausted!

  • in his crib in his room, when he wasn't crying and I wasn't on the couch holding him.
  • Honestly for about the first week we all slept on the couch and she slept in her boppy. She fixed her days and nights being mixed up by about the 2nd week.

  • me holding DS laying down in our bed. ?you have to do what works for you. ?of course some things are frowned upon depending on who you talk too but if you're sleep deprived, you need to figure something out. ?I remember swaddling DS and positioning him in his boppy in the cosleeper just to get an hours sleep. ?I slept extremely light b/c I was so paranoid.?
  • I ended up holding to sleep most of the night and still do at two weeks and myself in a recliner. Just have pillows ready to help support your arms with.
  • Congrats on your little sweetie!!!  :)

DH's parents stayed with us the first night we were home, and we all took turns staying up on the couch with dd.  Since I ebf, I woke up every two hours to feed, and in between feedings I would sleep while someone else stayed with dd.  It was a very chaotic night, and after that she started sleeping in her bassinett next to our bed.  She still sleeps there now.

  • In his crib in his own room.  Been there ever since.
  • Sleeping in the Boppy is pretty dangerous actually.  DS slept in his cosleeper and also on one of us for several weeks.  Swing sometimes too.  First month IS rough - remember to keep things bright and at a normal noise level during the day - dark and very quiet at night - to help baby figure out the difference between day and night.  GL!!
    Wheee!

  • In my arms, DD turned dusky (grayish) at the hospital and had/has a heart murmer and we were told to have her sleep on an incline.

She still mostly sleeps on my chest in the recliner. Its easier to nurse her every 2hrs.

  • In his pack n play right next to me. I would be too nervous to let him sleep on his boppy, and wouldn't sleep a wink.
  • Bassinet in our bedroom.  Since she was crying and feeding a lot, she also slept in my arms a fair bit.  Good luck to you, those first weeks are rough.
  • The first night home DD slept on me most of the night.  For the first three weeks it was torture trying to figure out how she would sleep for more than 30-45 min not being on me.  I can't tell you how many night we slept in the chair or my bed with her on my chest.  It was seriously the only way.  We did the car seat, boppy, swaddled, not swaddled (she hated being swaddled), on her side, in her pnp, in my bed, in the swing, in the bouncy seat, etc.  One night she was in her pnp crying and I flipped her to her belly and she slept 5 hours.  Indifferent  She's been on her belly ever since.

GL.  It gets so much better.  Text me if you need to vent mamma.

  • In the packnplay downstairs, with me and DH on the couches! ?I had a c-section, so stairs were tough. ?Otherwise, he would have been upstairs in his crib!
  • in the crib in his room. ?we slept in the guest room across the hall for the first month or so.
  • We set up the pack n play in our bedroom.  She slept in it the first couple of nights and then she and I slept in the guest room because I was bfing and dh went back to work, then she was either in the guest room or her boppy chair.  For the last 2 months she has been sleeping in her Soothe n Sound Glider.  We started her back in the pack  n play this week, in our bedroom...still, to transition her to her room at the end of the month.

  • In her crib in her room from day one.
  • For the first week DD slept in our arms- traded off between myself, DH, and my mom. She then slept in her carseat in the PNP because she had RSV and alot of congestion so we needed to keep her at an incline. She's been sleeping in her room in her crib since she was about 7 weeks old.
  • DS would only sleep on us or swaddled laying on the Boppy for the first few weeks.

  • It warns right on the tag to not allow babies to sleep in the Boppy, it can position them in a way that their airway cuts off if the head is forward. I would DEF NOT let baby sleep in that. What about a Snuggle Nest, that was our solution with this baby, after a few nights I could put it into the PNP and she did not know the difference.
  • On me.  I actually slept pretty lightly (which I was happy about since I am a deep deep sleeper normally) and had my fingers interlocked.  He refused to sleep in his crib, even though he was fine in the bassinet at the hospital.  After the first couple of weeks, he would sleep in his crib.

  • In his crib in his room across the hall from our bedroom.
  • in the pnp in our room, swaddled with two rolled up blankets touching his sides so he would feel comfy. many times I went to bed early while my mom or dh held him while sleeping bc I wcouldnt sleep well with him next to me--even asleep in the pnp. he's still in the pnp. I wouldnt do the boppy--very dangerous, and holding him to  sleep while I slept--i have not done, i always was afraid of squishing him. GL try a safe sleep positioner and a good swaddle blanket.

  • she's always slept in her own crib at night

during the day I would put her in her pnp so that she would begin to learn the difference between night and day time

  • Congrats on your LO he is adorable! DD sleeps in her bassenet next to my side of the bed. Its easier to feed her during the night, but usually half way through she end up sleeping on m chest.. She always falls asleep the fastest there and it lets me get some sleep too.
  • next to our bed in the bassinet of the play yard

  • In her PnP bassinet and she still does.  First week or so it was in or livingroom and DH slept on the couch so i could get some sleep and recover from my C/S.  BFing wasn't happening (long story) so he FF her when she needed to.

She slept ALL.THE.TIME when we got home, and had to wake her up every 2 hours to feed her..every 3-4 overnight.

Now?  yeah haha she wakes up when shes hungry or wet, and is up obviously more often.
