Preemies

new to the board, my baby was born at 34wks

Hi everyone.  I popped over here a week or so ago and introduced myself.  I knew the possiblity of having a preemie was pretty high w/ my Pre-E.  we were hoping to get me to 36wks, but my BP had a mind of its own and I was induced on tues. am.

so far my little guy has been doing great. breathing on his own and taking a bottle. it's just been really hard to be away from him and not be able to know what is going on all the time ( as I am sure you all know!)

Re: new to the board, my baby was born at 34wks

  • Hey there... I know exactly what you mean.  I had a similar situation and all worked out well.  DD stayed in the NICU for 2 weeks exactly... she had a little jaundice but otherwise she just needed to prove to them that she could eat well. She ate really well at first, then just kinda got tired (which is pretty typical) so they tube fed her for a few days to help her gain her strength back... after 2 days she pulled the tube out herself and has been a champion eater since.

Hope all continues to go well!  Even though it is hard to be away, try to be sure you get home and get some good rest before he comes home.  You'll be so glad that you did!

Congrats and so happy to hear he's doing well!
  • Congratulations! Parker James, such a cute name! And he looks just amazing =)
  • Congrats on your baby boy!! Cute name!

I had DD at 34 weeks also and today she is an average 18 month old - size and everything! Pumping will get easier and you may eventually get him to nurse if that's what you want. I was able to get DD to breastfeed when it was closer to her actual due date.

Hang in there...the first weeks are rough because you have everyone throwing advice at you, especially when your baby is a little peanut like yours - just know what YOU want for your child and stay firm.

  • Congratulations!!  My two were also born at 34 weeks and about the same weight.  They are such chunky monkies now!!  Best wishes for a speedy NICU stay.  Congratulations again Momma!
