Breastfeeding

Anyone have breast implants?

I got breast implants about 3 years ago.  I didn't even need to wear a bra and clothes never fit right.  I'm very happy with the decision I made because it really helped my self esteem.  Anyway, when I got my consultation about the surgery, I asked the doctor if I would still be able to breastfeed one day.  He said the chances were likely, but not for certain.  I had them put in under the fold of the breast and behind the muscle.

I've done a lot of research since getting pregnant because I think breastfeeding is so important if able.  With the placement of my implants, my research has found that about 60-70% of women were able to breastfeed successfully.

If anyone is here has them and has been successful, or knows someone in the same situation, I really need some encouragement.  I want so badly to breastfeed, but I was underdeveloped and really struggling with my appearance.  I still feel like I made the right decision, I was just hoping for some success stories.  Thanks in advance.

Re: Anyone have breast implants?

  • I don't have any info on B-feeding, but Who cares why you got implants, so many people have them these days, you shouldn't  have to explain your self...

  • I have implants and I have been looking for similar info from BF moms. From what I understand people with implants can still breastfeed but generally have problems with an oversupply or an under supply. My friend is breastfeeding and was having a problem producing enough so she would pump every 2 hours and breastfeed every 3rd hour. She did this for the first 3 weeks and now she has a great supply and a great milk stash. I know that seems like a lot of work but it worked for her. I really hope that I am able to as well and will give every attempt to do so.

  • No personal experience, but the only problem I've heard from implants is that it's really painful when your milk comes in.  I had a few co-workers who didn't have stretch marks after the surgery, but as their natural breasts started to grow they were in a lot of pain.  Both decided not to breast feed because they didn't think that their skin could stretch anymore.

Hopefully this doesn't happen to you!  It sounds like you are pretty determined.  Good Luck!

  • Thank you!  I love honesty.  lol.  I had not heard anything about that, that's good to know and be on the lookout for.

  • I do too! They are under the muscle, but were put in through my arm pits. I have had no problems bfing.  I got my implants and went from virtually a small B to a DD with no stretch marks. During pregnancy and when my milk came in, I went up to an E and now I have awful stretch marks. Seriously WTF??? Well, guess I was able to enjoy my beauties for a few years, lol!

As far as the look of them now, aside from the stretch marks, they are definitely not as high up as they were. My guess is that the extra weight of the milk makes them a bit more saggy Crying

When I am all done with bfing and babies, I am definitely getting them re-done. Along with a tummy tuck, lipo and anything else you can imagine, Wink

Did you have any supply issues or nipple sensitivity issues at all?

  • No nipple sensitivity (from bfing or the implants), but I think most bfers will tell you the first two weeks are a bit rough, as you are both brand new to the experience and trying to figure it out. That is totally normal. After we became "experts" at it, lol, there were no issues. And as for supply, I have oversupply and my freezer is busting out with extra milk.

  • I do and I haven't had any supply issues at all. Mine are also under the muscle, and I went from an A to a large B. The only issue I have is that during pregnancy I went from that B to a DD, and when my milk came in I went from a DD to a G. I'm hoping they shrink back down at some point! Talk about getting more than you bargained for....

  • I got them almost 10 yrs ago (under the muscle), and I have not had any issues with BF at all.  I have always had a little loss of sensitivity around the nipple area, but it seemed to come back when I started BF.  GL!
