When did you start? And what have you bought?
I have only purchased christmas onsies that were on sale from the gap. Thinking about getting the stroller this weekend. We love Bob's Revolution. Then next purchase would be the infant car seat. Too early?????
Re: Buying things in general for baby?
With DS, I managed to restrain myself with most things until after the shower, and it was a good thing because we got almost everything we needed.
This time, I won't be having a shower, and there are a few things we'll want (like a double stroller), but I'm still waiting. Mainly because I feel like I need more time to research stuff and figure out what we want/need.
Personally I have bought only things here and there that were on clearance, too (snowsuit, onesies, etc) but my mom on the other hand has bought so much already...diapers, wipes, bedding, so on and so forth. However, I have rationalized that I only get paid so many times before this baby comes so each time I do, I try to go out and get a couple of things so that we won't be so overwhelmed around the time s/he gets here. I'm sure everyone is different. I would just not recommend buying stuff that you would register for if you are going to have a shower.
Happy Shopping!
i have been given a few little gifts as a "congrats," but have not actually purchased anything on my own. i've definitely done some online searches for the best products as far as safety, etc, though. i'm thinking that a lot of this will come from various showers, so i would really like to wait until that time comes so that it's free!
i can, however, sympathize with really wanting to buy stuff for the baby - that's for sure!! i'm just going to try and hold out a little longer...
Your mom might want to hold up on diapers. Some babies can only fit into certain brands of diapers. My mom said when I was a newborn there was only 1 brand that fit and would hold everything in and when I got a little older I didn't fit into that brand anymore. It would be a shame to buy diapers that don't work for your baby.
Does it count that I already bought my daughter's Christmas dress for next year? I couldn't pass it up since it was originally $70 and I got it for $7.
If you think something is a bargain and it's a relatively cheap item, buy it. If it's a larger-ticket item like a car seat or whatever and you can buy it (and take it back if you don't need it or it doesn't fit in your car, etc.), go ahead and buy it. Of course, many of those larger items you'll likely get at a shower or from your parents/in-laws.
If you don't know if something is a bargain and you can't return it, don't bother, in my opinion.
I am personally against buying expensive clothes for my kid. I will be shopping at second hand shoppes for the baby. That being said, it's very hard not to cave and buy itty-bitty cute things at target. I did buy a tiny blue sweater with a whale on it. It was so cute I wanted to vomit.
Hopefully I will get lots of stuff at the shower, and then we'll shop afterward.
Oh My Goodness..your son is sooooooo cute!
OSU- That is our thought exactly! We want to pick up things each paycheck. That way it's not a huge blow to the account when baby is here. I don't think I will be getting a shower. All my family and friends are in the Midwest. Bummer... Oh well. Both parents are already buying stuff. So, that will help.

This is what I plan on doing as well. Plus, I figure my mom and MIL will buy those vomitingly cute outfits for their first grandchild.
Here's my take: our families are flaky in the gift department (see our wedding registry disaster as evidence), so we're going to buy things along the way, and then register for things that we would think most of them would agree to buy; AKA not the expensive stuff. ?
My parents are going to buy us something big - they'll tell us later - and I don't know what DH's parents are getting us.
And this next week we're buying this bouncer that I fell in love with. ?

The advice I've given myself this time around compared to last time... buy anything gear and accessory wise, but hold out on a ton of clothes. We did that last time and depending on the baby's weight... they could wear an outfit once or twice if it's newborn and the baby isn't tiny. I won't buy newborn this time. 0-3 only. Unless the baby comes early... and then we'll be in trouble! I don't think I'd know what to do with a small baby! We had sleepers Mya didn't even wear when she was born! It was awful just giving them away and knowing we wasted money!
Happy shopping!
