Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Toys are so five minutes ago

Madeleine is in a no-toy phase.  She will play with them for a few minutes and then move on to more interesting things--the DVD player, the cable box, the stereo, power cords, books on the bookshelves, bureau drawers etc.  Re-directing and distracting doesn't work because nothing that she's supposed to play with holds her attention.

I laugh when I see people asking for toy recs for first birthdays.  Just save your money for the inevitable ER visit.

  • Sean is the same exact way. He only wants to play with our trash. The recycle bin is like his toy box. An empty milk jug makes his day. Oh...and the dogs. He loves to terrorize them.

    Toys are for babies :)

  • Oh, yeah, I forgot about the trash, the diaper champ, and the cats' food.
  • LOL....DD just had her birthday this weekend, and got tons of toys....they basically stay in the bin.  She loves the books, but is otherwise more than happy playing with the remote, the phone, the roasting pan, the dogs water etc.  I should have just put household items on her birthday list =)
  • May I suggest a pot lid and kitchen spoon? We went to a play date earlier in the week and the boys thought that pot lids and kitchen spoons were the best toys in the house - they were using the lids as shields when they'd run into each other...
  • Oh SOOOO 5 mins ago in our house too!!! She doesn't sit long enough to play w/anything!

Yeah, we totally should have put household goods on the list, too.  She is right now playing with the dish washer. Confused
  • My son's absolute favorite toy is the dustpan! Gross... he loves carrying around the broom and dustpan.  It's not like he licks it but I keep asking DH to put it away but magically it appears in the kitchen and Cam goes right for it everytime.  That's when he's not stealing our cell's and dialing 911 (when my blackberry is locked that's the only number it can call) and dumping the dog water over and recently he's found the power button on the tv....  fun time :o)
  • My son would spend all day with the toilet bowl brush if I let him.   I suggested to my parents that they buy him a toilet, plunger, and brush for his birthday- he only likes the germiest things we own.
  • Isn't that the truth!  My DS loves the basket of remotes, kitchen spoons, pots, the VCR, power button on the TV, a stack of plastic cups and the FRIDGE!  LOL about plunger - my mom has a new, clean plunger she keeps for DS at her house because he kept trying to steal her gross used one.
  • Ben's favorite things to play with these days are magnets, picture frames and paper towel/toilet paper rolls.  Toys are for chumps.  ;)

This made me lol!   I can just picture this!   Oh how I dread this day...
