Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Please recommend a carrier for me

We are going to Baltimore in a couple of weeks and can't take the stroller in the aquarium. DD is fine enough to walk, but even though DS is walking, I think that I'd like to have a carrier for him as well. He's not digging the Moby Wrap anymore, so I think that I'd like to get a soft structured type carrier but don't want to break the bank. Thanks for any recs.

  • Everyone on here loves their Ergo! Personally I really like my Babyhawk Mei Tai.

  • Hmmm...well, I think most of them for bigger babies are going to cost at least $100.  I've heard excellent things about Ergos, but I think we are going to end up getting a Pikkolo, which is basically the same as an Ergo except you also have the option of facing them out when they are on your tummy (like a Bjorn- but unlike the Bjorn, they get proper support in that position).  It's around $120, but I look at it as something we will use with K for now, and then we can use starting at newborn for the next one.  I'm going to sell the Bjorn.
  • I use the bjorn, but you might not get your money's worth before he is too heavy. If they will let you take it in, you might try one of those carriers with the frame that are make for hiking or camping travel. The other thing we will probably get is one of those backpacks with a carrier built in ?- that way I have have him on a carrier and his stuff in a backpack when we travel and I don't have to carry a diaper bag.?

  • We use the Bjorn for hockey games, but tonight when we went cross country skiin, DH use the Kelty pack and LOVED it! He said it was like not even having her there. It was about $100, but it is good for a LONG time.
  • I really like the Beco Butterfly I just bought. You can put baby from front to back without a partner or help. It is also ideal for people of different sizes, it is far more adjustable than the Ergo (but you can buy an extender for the Ergo). Also it comes with an infant insert so I am kind of thinking ahead for that one. You have to buy the infant insert for the Ergo if you need one later.
  • I love my Ergo!
