epidural and blood patch

My epidural was attempted while lying down since they were sure my water would break if I sat up and I was in pre-term labor (24wks with twins).  The epidural was not successful however I did get the spinal headache afterwards.  I had a blood patch.  Anyone with similar experience?

Re: epidural and blood patch

  • I was hesitant to get the epidural but after being in labor for 36 hrs and the Dr's thinking I might be on my way to a C-section they convinved me to do it.  That was midnight on Sat.  The anestelogist came in and went to business and then came around to my side of the bed.  He got all serious and said, "um this has never happened to me before"...  <enter freak out my me & my husband>  He went thru and hit my spinal column.  To make a long story short, I finally delived at 1:30pm on Sunday after 49 hrs of labor...but the funny thing is that my epi never worked properly either and I got into a major fight with the head of the anestilogy dept at the hospital.  I got the shakes and the spinal headache almost immediately.  I had the blood patch on Modnay afternoon and was in rough shape for a few days afterwards.  I blame it for breastfeeding going awry for me.  My back killed for about a week and it makes me never want to get another epidural again.

  • At first they gave my headache a day or two, then tried some asthma meds to get rid of it, finally gave me the blood patch 4 days after delivery!!!  And tried the blood patch lying down again (failure) but eventually gave me Fentanyl to make me drousy and sat me up...ugh.
