Cleaning pump parts

I have a Medela PISA. When I pump at work during the day I just rinse the flanges and valves. When I get home at night, I wash them with hot soapy water. But its impossible to get inside the valve and clean all of the inside of it. I still run hot water through it but don't think I'm getting it really clean enough.

How do you wash your pump's parts? TIA.

Re: Cleaning pump parts

  • Running hot water through the valve is all I do.  About once a week or so (depending on how much I've used it), I run the valve & the flanges through the dishwasher.

Typically, I use the Medela wipes on the flanges after every session during the day at work, then rinse the whole get up at the end of the day with the hottest water I can stand.  I take it home on the weekends for the dishwasher cleanup.

  • I do the same thing you do, and also run them through the dishwasher ever couple of days.

  • There is a redesigned valve that you can buy at Target. There was mold, yes MOLD in my old valve.  The new valves are much easier to clean!  link below

  • I use the micro steam bag after every pumping session
