2nd Trimester

Still confused on how much to buy/clothing

This is my 1st child and I'm not having a shower so I will be on my own getting clothing.

What size newborn, 0-3, 3-6 and how many: sleepers, gowns, onsies, dresses (girl), 2 piece out fit, socks, hats. What else am I missing. I wont to be prepared and not have to run out to store the 1st few days home and try to find items.

thanks

  • tred lightly with newborn/o-3 month sizes. babies grow out of them very quickly.

if you have baby bargins, there's a great guide in there on approx how much of each you'll need.

  • There is a check-list on this site that has tons of stuff on it and was extremely overwhelming when I looked at it. So instead I went to babies-r-us and at least started picking out the big things...crib, etc. While I was there I was given a purple registry book and in it is another checklist of items you should have. This one is only two pages and much easier to handle. Also, if you have access to craigslist, many people are selling items for a lot less expensive that are still in great shape. I found a new baby bjorn carrier, still in packaging for $20!!!
  • well it still depends on how much your gonna be washing - I was a lazy momma and would buy more and more because I never had time to wash.  But the good thing is since I am having another boy I should be just about set in the newborn and 0/3 department. My baby was also small and is still small for his age so he wore his size and still does.  He is 17 months and can still fit 12 month clothing.  That will make a big difference.

  • I to am having a summer baby so I plan on buying mostly t-shirt onsies for now. Newborns spend almost all of their time swaddled  so I figure he will be just fine in a light outfit.

You also neve know how big your baby si going otbe so buying too much or buying ahead is difficult. Or so I think.

Have a few of each and see what you prefer.  DD lived in sleep gowns for the longest time because they were sooo easy for diaper changes and didn't constrict her cord stump.  Just have a few 3-6.  Because by that point, you can always go shopping and pick up more of what you would like to have.  Perhaps even time your shopping trips around major sales like Labor Day.

  • I do not plan on buying any NB stuff at all. I have seen many 7 & 8 lb babes that do not even fir in these. I plan on getting a few 0-3 and more 3-6. I am having 2 or 3 showers so I have tried to resist the urge to buy (other hten a few Christmas clearance sleepers!)

I think good things to have a onsies, gowns, sleepers, socks, mittens. As pp said it depends on how much laundry you want to do, they can have major spit up or diaper blow outs I would get a few extras to allow for that.
