Trying to Get Pregnant

Is there something Wrong??

So my husband and I have been TTC for about 4 months now.  I'm not anxious that nothing has happened so far, however I AM anxious that I haven't had a period since 12/22/08!!  I've tested and I'm not pregnant.  I've gone to the Dr. and they just think it's because I'm stressed or anxious about getting pregnant.  For me though, I've always been regular so I'm concerned that something might be wrong.  I've still be charting and it seems like I'm still ovulating even though my period is not coming. .  Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on this?  I feel like I'm at a stand-still.

  • You can have a random cycle long cycle or an annov cycle.  How many times do you think you've O'd since your LMP?  I would ask your doc for some provera.

Stress can totally delay ovulation. At this point your dr. should be willing to give you provera to induce a period and then you can start over.

You can only O once per cycle.

You can "feel" like you're going to O or have a positive OPK a few times in a cycle because sometimes your body gears up to O and then doesn't.

I just O'd on CD65. Check out my chart. It happens.

Everyone is going to tell you to read Taking Charge of Your Fertility and to start charting.

  • I've heard of that. (FYI I am new to the board and to charting).  I will read that and look into this Provera.  I've guessed the I've O'd twice because of the tests I've been taking, but it seems like this book will offer more information.

    I really appreciate everyones suggestions!

You can gear up to O and get positive OPK's a million times before you actually O.

Provera is a drug that induces a period and "resets the clock" so to speak. It's pretty darn common. If you tell your dr that you've gone 70+ days without a period, they'll probably have you take a pregnancy test (to double check) and then take the provera.

  • So are you charting or not? In your first post you said you were. Ovulation tests do not tell you that you ovulated. Only taking your bbt each morning will tell you for sure.
  • It's likely you have not O'd at all. The OPKs can indicate that you're about to O but the only way to confirm is through temps. I would recommend looking into a 2nd opinion if you're not happy with the treatment you're receiving from your current doc.
  • I just recently started charting.  I have been taking the tests for my LH surge and had that occur at two different times in the last two months.
  • I have made an appointment with a new GYN for next week.  I will ask her about the provera and hope that she will be able to offer more help.  I bought the book too (Taking charge of your fertility).  I guess I'll look into the BBT tracking too.  Like I mentioned before, I'm new to all of this and while we have been trying to four months, I really didn't know there was so much to it.

Seriously, now I'm getting irritated. You're obviously not paying attention to what anyone is telling you so I'm not sure why you're even here.

TWO SURGES DON'T MEAN YOU'VE OVULATED TWICE!

    .

  • You seem a little high strung, but I am listening and was only explaining my earlier comment (that I O'd twice in the last two months).  I understand now that that's not possible.

The other ladies on this board have been very helpful and patient with me and I appreciate their assistance.

  • Charting=taking your temp every morning with a bbt. Are you doing that?

  • I have been taking my temp with a regular thermometer.  (I'm seeing that a BBT may be more accurate).  I have also been using the OPT.

I didn't know that charting meant specifically bbt testing.

Hi.  I don't really like the attitudes of every single person on this board, but I don't like every person I meet IRL either.  You are new here.  I wouldn't jump on people who are frustrated with your "newness" and I wouldn't take every bad thing someone says to you on this board so personally.  If you do end up sticking around, you will understand why some of the things you are saying annoy some people.  Just lurk more, read more, and then think before you post.  Monkey is not high strung, she's honest.  Most people on here are.

    I'm feeling kind today.

I mean, it's one thing when someone comes here because they don't know where to go and they listen instead of argue.

    OPT=OPK?

So can we see your chart that you've been keeping with the regular them?

Insulting me while you're asking for help is like shoving your foot in your mouth and mumbling back trying to get someone else to remove it.

I'm not high-strung. I'm annoyed that you're barely acknowledging anything anyone else has told you. You've mentioned taking your temp but you haven't said for how long or whether you're using paper or fertilityfriend or another online resource. I'm not a dentist and I refuse to pull your teeth.

Go away. Lurk. Learn how to post to get the most effective responses. It shouldn't be this hard.

  • Ok, I accept that and my apologies to Monkey, but I've never been to a board where "newness" seems to be unwelcome.  I have read other postings and I know there are certain words or phrasings that the people on here get offended by.  I'm not here to offend anyone and I do apologize for my ignorance, but I'm just TTC like everyone else.  I like to think at some point everyone on here didn't know the things they know now and that's why I'm here to get advice from those who may be more experienced.

If I do offend anyone on here by not knowing things that maybe I should . . .I apologise.  I'm still learning.

  • Ok. If you're temping, can we see your chart?

Charting temps is the only way to confirm ovulation.

Most other message boards don't have the transient traffic we do. People use us like they use Google and quite often, don't listen to WTF we're trying to tell them.

Seriously, we get "TTC 101" posts just about every hour on the hour. It grates on the nerves after awhile.

  • Well, I just have a calendar by my bed that I write it on every morning.   Is there something different that you all use?

**again I apologize for not knowing this.  For me it's easy to just take my temp before I get up and write it down by my night stand.

  • What they said, and when I was new, I got flammed...but, not asked to leave Wink So, be patient with people that have been on here a while.  You'll get the hang of it.

I think pp said it, but a lot of ladies on this board use fertilityfriend.com

You don't have to buy VIP, the basic is free.  Sign up and you'll learn oodles about charting.  Promise.  If you do sign up for VIP, click on MrsSC's ticker to navigate to the FF page...she was nice to you, and would enjoy the free VIP.

That's right, I just pimp'd you out Summit.

I'm just looking for some advice.  Thanks for your encouragement.

    Thanks again!

  • Glad to see all the other help you're getting. I would've been thinking the same thing as you last year had I not read TCOYF. It will help you understand everything. Not getting AF can signal something like PCOS or other problems. You should talk to your doctor, as PP said, and ask for provera to get you into a new cycle. I also recommend fertilityfriend for charting, it is much easier than writing it out by hand on paper. Your doctor may call for additional testing if you get stuck in another long cycle after that. GL to you.
