1st Trimester

Last day with my students!!!!

At least until March 30th. I teach at a year-round school, so we're on break from tomorrow until the 30th.

You have NO freaking idea how happy I am that I won't see these kids again until that time and that I only have to see them 45 more times until June. I cannot wait to go to my new school next year.

  • Terrors, are they?

  • Oh,My.God. You have no idea. I teach 5th-12th grade music - well, it's more like babysitting or a glorified study hall where the students run around the room. They do this in every single class and the administration doesn't support us whenever we do hand out discipline, like detentions or Saturday school. They often overrule teachers, essentially making us look like clowns. It doesn't help that I teach urban students either since there's no support from home. I already have two interviews set up for next week at other schools in the district, and I should have no problem getting one of those jobs. At least those are teaching elementary music, which would be much better for me.

This, people, THIS is why I don't do K-12!!! ?There's no way in heck that I would even make it through a day without telling off students and getting reprimanded for my, ahem, salty language. ?The only way I would teach something other than college classes would be parochial high school. ?That's it.?

Any my mom wonders why I'm also interested in teaching at a prison. At least in the prison, there are guards who take out the students who act up. I would LOVE to teach adults or little kids - this middle school crap is just eating me up emotionally and mentally. I am so sick of this school.

I've interviewed at Catholic and other parochial schools, but after I found out how little the pay was, I couldn't do it. I at least get "combat" pay here and get paid fairly well.

  • I totally understand. ?LOL, "combat pay."

Yeah, parochial does pay low - but it would be more than I get paid now. ?Seriously, I'm part-time and get paid per class per semester. ?I make, well, maybe $12,000 a year? ?Last year was a banner year - $16,500 - because I taught at my alma mater for a semester as well; and had to quit because of the 150 mile a day commute - $4 a gallon gas didn't bode well, either.?

  • I teach middle school - I totally get it!! I'm stuck with mine for 55ish more days (school days)... ugh!!! I'm ready for summer!!
