I started pumping today because I am supposed to be going out to dinner on Saturday and DH will need to feed. I was going to put the milk I pump from now until Saturday in the fridge. However, I am not even pumping 1/2 ounce when pumping. So, I don't think I'll even have enough to go on Saturday. If that's the case can I put it in the freezer on Saturday? I wanted to keep it in the fridge if it does get used but if I don't get enough I don't want it to go to waste.
Re: Freezing milk after keeping it in fridge
Yes, I pumped yesterday am and pm and just now in the am. Again this time I did't even get a 1/2 oz...it sucks! Seems he poops/pees enough so he must be getting enough milk but nothing wants to come out when I pump:( Thanks for the reply!
I EBF my DD... so when I want to go out and need to leave her with a sitter its REALLY difficult.
Its hard because I don't usually pump and since my DD is 10 months, my body has regulated to meet my DD's needs and not much extra.
I try to fit in a pumping session or 2 a week. Sometimes I don't even get an ounce and other times I get 3 or 4.. it all depends on when I pump and how long since last nursing, etc. But I try and combine enough to atleast get 1 bottle in to the freezer a week or so. It may take me 48 hours or so to get enough for 1 bottle but that's the longest I will let BM stay in the fridge waiting.
If you have an ounce or 2 and aren't sure about going out on Saturday I suggest freezing what you have. It may not be alot but if you keep trying you can always unfreeze it and add it to whatever else you pump during the week. If you don't get enough or don't go out, then its already frozen and its a start for next time.
GL!!!
