DVD Rave and a little AW!

On the recommendation of my SIL, I got the LeapFrog "Letter Factory" DVD that teaches phonics.  It's a cute take on the "A says ahh, A says ahh, every letter makes a sound, the A says ahh" that the refrigerator toy does.

After just a few weeks of DS (2.5 yrs, Williams Syndrome) watching it, he can say most of the sounds when prompted and can recognize quite a few letters.  This is nothing short of amazing!  We've been singing the ABC song to him for what seems like forever and it was as if something just clicked.

We were pretty successful using the Signing Time videos (about a year of that being mostly what he'd watch when he had TV time) but I didn't think he had the attention span for a more advanced DVD like this.

I suppose I may sell him short at times, as I just don't/didn't expect him to pull it together.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not setting the bar low for him, I just didn't expect this so quickly. I didn't expect him to pick up the "S" in the bath and say "sssssss" and then the same for T, Z, C, N, L, O, F, P, J, K, and A.  He's only been talking for 6 months - Go DS!

  • Great job!!! We love that video & contrary to SOME other dvd's, the sounds are actually pretty accurate for those hard sounds like L and X.

     YAY for your little one!!!
