2nd Trimester

OMG!!! I seriously jumped up and down!!

I applied for my grad program last week.. finalized my application on Thursday. A few minutes ago I received an email from the program coordinator saying that he is going to recommend me for admission to the program and that my official letter should be coming in the mail sometime next week.?

EEEEEEEEEK!!!!!!!!

I'm home alone, my dogs are afraid of me because I just ran a lap through the house, DH is working, my sister and brother won't answer their phones, and I just needed to get it out!!!!!!?

I had a tough time with illness my 2nd year in undergrad, and 3 years ago this same program told me "You might want to look for another major- your grades will never be good enough to get into our program.." I worked my ass off pulling up grades and now I get to do what I want with my life!!!!

I am SO excited. This is something I would usually celebrate with a bottle of bubbly, but I'm enjoying my icy cold cranberry juice instead. With a straw!!

This one is a Master's program for Speech Pathology. PhD is in the cards, but down the road (probably once my own kids start school). DH has his PhD in Evaluation and Measurement, though- all Stats and test creation and stuff like that.
  • Thank you, everyone!!!!?

AHHHHH DH is home early (he gave a test to his class today)!!! MUST go tell him!!
  • Congrats! I graduated 5/08 with my Master's in Speech Path!

I work as a school SLP now, and I LOVE IT.

When would you start the program? Will they be flexiable with your clinical hours?

  • Congrats! I too graduated in May 08 with my master's in speech. I'm working in the schools and loving it! We had several girls in our program that had children already and they were able to make it work well for them. One of them even ended up having her 3rd during one of the summer breaks and was able to jump right back in and not lose any time. Good luck!

Oh!! I'm glad you love your job- I am so excited to begin clinic. My clinical hours will be through the college since we have an in-house clinic (I would start those hours a year from now, so my 2nd grad semester- I will begin the program in Fall '09).

The beauty of it all is that DH works from about 4-730 2 nights/week and 7-10 on a third night (Professor) and his office hours are flexible so he's going to SAH w/the baby while I do my practicum/GA hours, and we can schedule classes so that we won't need day care (maybe a babysitter for 3 hours one night a week, but we can totally swing that).?

    So, so excited!!

You know, it makes me SO happy to see more Speech girls handling a career AND a family. I want so badly to be able to do both (and do both well, of course!) and I get so excited when I see it happening (seems like a lot of Bumpies are SLPs)!

That's awesome.  DH is an actuary and I'm in grad school, so our child is doomed to a life of nerddom.
