Freezing BM

I am starting back to school April 6 and want to start freezing my BM. How long do you usually let it freeze before you use it??

Re: Freezing BM

  • You can store it in a regular freezer for 3-4 months.  I started freezing mine at the beginning of February and won't be using it until the end of this month.

  • You can store it in a deep freeze for 6-12 months.  I've already got a supply for when I return to work in May.

  • You are smart to start storing early.  This helps allot if you ever decide to take a vacation or even an overnight trip away from your LO.  Also, I've had to use some when I encountered peaks and valleys in my supply.

I still have some left and I started a few weeks after LO was born.  This can also help if you decided to stop BF early, your stash can carry you a few weeks/even months depending on how you use it.

Anywho, 3-4 in regular freezer, 6-12 mths in a seperate freezer.  That being said, I've used milk that is just over the 3-4 months with no issues.  I deforst it, take a quick sniff and taste test...if it seems okay I use it.
