Babies: 9 - 12 Months

"Feed self a cracker..." ?

WTEFY says that by seven months most babies can feed themselves a cracker.  I think my DS is probably ready to try eating a cracker, but I have no idea what kind to offer him.  Added complication - I was allergic to wheat as a baby so we're waiting until one year to introduce any wheat.

Suggestions?  We've tried rice cakes and those are going okay.

  • They are prob talking about the pincer grasp and not all 7 month olds have developed that yet.

  • They don't need pincer grasp to feed themselves large items such as biter biscuits or mum mums.  I think that's the sort of thing that they mean.
  • I give my daughter the Gerber puffs - it took her about a week or so but she can get them in her mouth pretty easily now. I don't think it means you really have to give your kid a cracker.
  • I think that probably just means they can bring something to their mouth, open & chew.  Try a bitter bisquit or other teething thing, like mum mum, doesn't have to be a triscuit or anything.

  • Baby Mum Mums from Amazon. Great deal (I also got a discount for their large pack!) and DD gobbles it up like nothing else. If only she would love peas and carrots as much...
