I've got a cold, am allergic to sudafed and don't find that benadryl helps much (does help get me to sleep, at least). Nasal congestion kept me up all night Sunday such that I had to call in sick yesterday. I had DH pick up those sticky nasal strips like football players wear (I think the brand was Breathe Right) and they TOTALLY made it possible for me to breathe! Some people might find it uncomfortable to keep something stuck on their nose but I didn't. It is a little weird when you need to blow your nose just because your nostrils are wide open, but it enabled me to go from getting up six times in the night on Sunday to only once last night.
It might not help if you problem is really up in your sinuses but if your nasal passages are all swollen and stuffed it should help. I had DH pick them up for the heck of it and really didn't think they would help; I was amazed when they did.
Re: PSA for ladies with colds/nasal congestion
I'll second (or third) the humidfier, too - I had already been using it just for my pg-related congestion and nosebleeds, though, so I needed another weapon in the arsenal for the cold.
I didn't know Claritin was ok'ed for pregnant women?
