Blocked duct

I woke up the night before last with my right breast killing me. When I woke up yesterday morning, I had a fever (99.9)

All day long, my fever got progressively worse (topped at 103.4)

I have been using the compresses on the breast, titling my little guys chin towards the blocked duct and taking motrin (as per my doctor's advice)

Is there anything else I can be doing? I don't have a fever any more, but my breast is still hurting.

TIA!

Re: Blocked duct

  • have you tried massaging it during a hot shower or using a warm compress?  how about pumping and massaging the breast after he eats?  Sorry im not more help.  good luck

  • Like pp, take hot showers and massage your breast.  Also, try soaking your breast in bowl of warm/hot water mixed with some epsom salts.  Kellymom.com recommends this.  The epsom salts help draw the block out.  It's a little hard to soak your breast that way, I just put the bowl on a low surface and lean over it.  I also massage as much as I can when I'm in bed at night before I fall asleep.  I then wake up before my DD to soak and massage before her feeding.  When your LO is nursing massage your breast in downward motion towards your nipple.

If you had a fever over 101, you may have mastitis.  I would see you doctor to confirm this.

  • I forgot...nurse, nurse, nurse your baby.  I found that pumping never cleared my blocked ducts; it was the powerful sucking of my baby that cleared them.  I'm one of those unfortunate moms that get reoccuring blocked ducts.
