(it's Tuesday, right?) Has anyone's gag reflex gotten worse?

This is very random to me, but the last week or so my gag reflex has gotten out of control. Coughing makes me gag, cleaning my ears, brushing my teeth, even just thinking about gagging makes me gag. No heaving or throwing up, just gag.  I've never had any kind of issue with this, but has anyone else noticed anything like this?

  • yes, yes & yes... clearing my throat makes me gag too--- then i sit there for about five minutes wondering if I'm going to puke. Oh, and certain smells or commercials on TV for food start the whole gag- wait for it, wait for it- gag some more pattern again. yumm

  • I've always had issues with gagging- very sensitive sense of smell.  Brushing my teeth is probably the worst culprit and it's only gotten much worse since I've been prego.

I just try to cover my nose when I'm around potential threats and it seems to help.  Good luck.

  • Mine is bad in the morning, so I have to wait a while to brush my teeth. ?It hasn't gotten worse, but isn't really getting better.

Oh but yes. I was flipping through the channels on my lunch break yesterday, and some show that featured British cooking was on. Not fun! I hope this goes away soon..
  • I don't know how this relates to Tuesday Stick out tongue but YES mine has gotten out of control too.. It leads me to lots of fun dry heaving. Hang in there - we're all suffering with you!

  • Oh man, mine was out of control for a while there. It's a little better now, but yeah, brushing your teeth is the worst.

  • I have been gagging a lot lately too.  I randomly gagged as I was walking through the family room the other night and my husband was like WTF?!?!?!

  • Brushing teeth PSA

I had this problem earlier in my pregnancy as well.  I started using one of the battery operated toothbrushes.  Nothing fancy, it was like 5 or 6 dollars at target but it made the biggest difference.  I just felt like I had to move it around a little less since it was doing some of the work.  Moving it around less made me gag less.  I am still using it now and it really really helped!

    Good luck.

  • You described me to a tee! All my poor Husband hears is "No, it makes me gag" haha
  • I am very gaggy in the morning, but I rarely puke.  Nothing especially seems to cause the gagging except coughing.  Once I start gagging, though, I gag about 5 times in a row before I get it under control.
  • YES!  It's so good to know I'm not alone.  Brushing my teeth, taking pills, even taking my asthma inhaler makes me gag!  Oh goodness, hope it ends soon.
