I thought I would finally post my birth story before I forget it!

Well my due date was january 13 so I was a little surprised when I started leaking fluid on December 26! At first I was a little bit in denial but then it started running down my legs. And since I am a labor and delivery nurse I knew it was my water.

So I called work and told them instead of working that night I would be coming in to have a baby!

My husband was getting off work in a hour and since I was not contracting I decided to wait until he got home to tell him. So I tried to pack since I was not ready to go to the hospital yet!

When my husband got home I told him we were going to the hospital not to take me to work but to have a baby!! He was super excited! Then we realized we had not bought the video camera yet so he went to go and do that while I took a shower and packed, still no contractions.

We made it to the L&D unit by 8pm and I was put on the monitor and I was having contractions but I was not feeling them. My doctor came in and checked me and I was 4cm. I tried everything to go into labor raspberry leaf tea, pumping warm wash clothes on breasts, and walking and birthing ball no success.

so at 0045 I decided to start pitocin. I started getting uncomfortable around 0130. At 0300 I was 5cm. At 0600 I was 7cm and decided I needed a little IV pain medication. At 0700 I wanted a little more pain medication and I was 8cm,

0730 I got up and went to the bathroom and my husband realized I was pushing at 0745. The urge to push was so strong I had to. I would not say it felt better it was something I could not help but do. I pushed on my hands and knees because that was the only way it was comfortable.

then my doctor checked me and said I had a lip which he reduced, that did not feel good! He then said I had very tight skin and that was the only thing keeping him in. so he offered an episiotomy which I really did not want to do but I finally agreed. Which I am glad I did because the next contraction I had him! 45 minutes of pushing Aidan David was born at 0831 on December 27 he weighed 7lb 9oz and was 18 inches long.

Overall I loved my experience and would do it all again. I was very glad I could avoid an epidural!
