Can Austin be a girls name? I only know one girl with the name, but I love it and it's one DH agrees with me on. I think I might spell it Austen, as in Jane Austen, though. WDYT?

I have known and Austin and an Austyn (both girls). I thought their names were very fitting. It's not my fav girls' name, but I like it.

I had a lot of male ancestors/relatives with that name (family name, started in the late 1800s) and one female cousin on the other side of the family. I think of it as more of a male name. I have to call my female cousin Austie because of it. (But she loves it, and uses it as a permanent nickname now)

Any spelling other than Austin looks made up and it fits for a boy. I wouldn't use it for a girl.

I like it a lot and think you could spell it with an 'e' and not be too weird... not a 'y' though. There is a country song with a girl Austin in it. In fact I like it better for a girl!

I usually think of it as a boy's name, but I think it could be cute on a girl. I agree that you could get away with spelling it with an "e," but I don't particularly like the way it looks with the "y."

And FWIW, I don't think it sounds anything remotely close to a redneck name.

Hmm I'm on the fence with this one. I like this name for a boy. I usually despise boy names used for girls but for some reason this one might work for a girl. I'm not sure why but I can imagine a girl with this name I think (maybe bc of the country song that a pp mentioned)!
