Can Austin be a girls name? I only know one girl with the name, but I love it and it's one DH agrees with me on. I think I might spell it Austen, as in Jane Austen, though. WDYT?
I had a lot of male ancestors/relatives with that name (family name, started in the late 1800s) and one female cousin on the other side of the family. I think of it as more of a male name. I have to call my female cousin Austie because of it. (But she loves it, and uses it as a permanent nickname now)
I like it a lot and think you could spell it with an 'e' and not be too weird... not a 'y' though. There is a country song with a girl Austin in it. In fact I like it better for a girl!
TTC #1 for over 5 years - too many to count IF treatments (tried everything and anything), repeat miscarriages.

I usually think of it as a boy's name, but I think it could be cute on a girl. I agree that you could get away with spelling it with an "e," but I don't particularly like the way it looks with the "y."
And FWIW, I don't think it sounds anything remotely close to a redneck name.
Hmm I'm on the fence with this one. I like this name for a boy. I usually despise boy names used for girls but for some reason this one might work for a girl. I'm not sure why but I can imagine a girl with this name I think (maybe bc of the country song that a pp mentioned)!
Don't do it... I like it as a boy's name, but not for a girl. I feel like almost every boy's name is being taken over by the girls. If this continues much longer, there'll be nothing left to name boys but Thor and Hercules...
Re: wdyt of Austin for a girl?
yeah I have to agree. I like it for a boy.
1) i hate city names.
2) it's a redneck boy's name.
I like it!
Your wedding photos are BEAUTIFUL!
I like it for a boy. Not crazy about it for a girl though.
This.
1) It was a name before it was a city. Cities are often named after people.
2) LOL @ the idea of my son as a redneck or having a redneck name!

It was a SURNAME before it was a city, not a given name.
ditto

Ditto...I know a girl named Austin and it doesn't seem weird or masculine at all for her. Wish DH liked it!
