Midwestern or other Cold weather Bumpies...

Did you buy a maternity winter coat?

My winter coat is too tight to zip up and all of my nicer coats are too small as well. I live outside of Chicago so it is not so warm. I am thinking that I may need to go buy a coat that is on clearance somewhere b/c who knows when it will warm up.

  • I actually saved 2 coats from when I was fatter and was able to use them when I grew out of my smaller coats. You could always buy a larger size coat on clearance of you dont find a maternity one.

  • I just wear my columbia ski jacket... i was browsing for a jacket the other day but decided its too late in the season to buy one.. i just wear it open but wear something warm underneath... of course i don't work, so i don't really go anywhere when its cold unless its absolutely necessary.

  • mine isnt a mat coat per se, but it was a Christmas gift from my mom because it has an empire waist (the buttons only come down to right below the boobs, but the actual coat goes to mid thigh).

  • I use one of my FI's coats because I couldn't justify buying a maternity winter coat when we're heading into spring now. But I agree with the previous poster: check clearance for bigger sizes! Otherwise you might pay way too much for a coat you might not be using for too much longer.
  • I was actually wondering about this the other day. I don't live in a super cold area but I used to live in Chicago. I'm hoping the weather here turns warm enough before I no longer fit into my coat. In the Chicago area, you might need to get one, or at least a coat in a size larger than you are.

  • I didn't - my super warm (down) coat I can still squeeze into (I'm only 23 weeks though), and my other one that's wool is empire waisted and just buttons under the boobs so it's ok.

  • I think I might go check out ON's clearance tomorrow after my chiro appt. My little SIL got a super cute coat that would work, who knows if they have any left.
  • MIL is a few sizes bigger than me and gave me one of her black pea coats. I haven't had to wear it yet but if it doesn't warm up I may start wearing it.
  • The coat I have I actually bought when I found out I was pregnant the first time, so I bought it big and it will last me through the winter.  The winter is really almost over, I doubt I would get a new coat even if I did out grow my coat.
  • Mine actually buttons, so I can at least still button the top button now.

  • Minneapolis-ite here and no, I haven't purchased one. I'm hoping I can squeak by without having to buy one. My two favorite non-pg coats are working so far and if I can just make it through March I think I'll be okay. I'll just wear layers or something.
  • I'm in VT and I bought a bunch of cheaper coats to make sure I could alway fit in one or the other...  That way, if I'm feeling fat and bloated, I can wear one thats larger and if I'm having a bump-tastic day, then I'll wear one that I can zip, but you can still see the bump...  I also bought 2 longer coats that have the zipper that zips up but then can zip up again... know what i mean?
