2nd Trimester

What are you buying/registering based upon the gender?

Not that I'm buying much this time around but just thinking about how little I actually bought/registered for that was "boyish".  I think it was all pretty much just clothes and stuff like that. All the gear, slings, diaper bag etc was either gender neutral simply what I wanted.  I figured I was the one carrying the diaper bag so who cares if it was boy or girlish!  We don't need much of anything 2nd time around so I'm just twiddling my fingers waiting to find out boy or girl so I can start clothes shopping or not!

What is your plan for this kind of stuff?

Re: What are you buying/registering based upon the gender?

  • I registered before we found out because I knew otherwise I would want all pink or blue and could possibly regret it next time... However, as BRU is famous for a few things have been discontinued and so I now have a blue pack and play.  I also registered for a few blankets and burp cloths and stuff like that in blue after finding out.

  • God willing, we would like more than 1 child for sure - so we agreed to keep the super-gender-specific gear to a minimum.?

Really the only things I can think of off the top of my head that will be gender-specific are the bedding and the clothing. I'm sure we'll get lots of either boyish or girlish blankets and things at the shower(s), so we won't be registering for a lot of that kind of stuff.

The sling (we already have a Moby), stroller, furniture, diaper bag (already have), etc are all neutral. ?

  • I'm more attracted to gender neutral things anyway, which is good since we aren't finding out the sex. I've gotten a lot of hand me down clothing that's gender neutral and 0-3 mo. which is good because I can wait until the baby is here to buy clothes in larger sizes in gender appropriate.

As for nursery stuff, of course gender neutral, I'm thinking a nature-y woodsy theme, but that's what I would do if it was boy or girl

  • We will be registering for boy/girl clothes, some towels and bedding. Other than that, everything is pretty neutral since we want more than one child.

  • The stroller and playyard Not that they're exactly boyish - it could be considered gender neutral - but if I were having a girl, they'd probably be more girly. The highchair has a little bit of blue and not sure on the swing yet - the only ones I really like are browns and biege. But, once again, if it were a girl, I probably would go with a pink one.... Diaper bag, I'm definitely going blue, not pink.
  • We are doing everything gender neutral except for clothes/burp cloths/receiving blankets/pacifiers...that sort of stuff.  We also bought some stuff to accessorize his room to make it a little more boyish, but the bedding is neutral....although I think I'll still buy something different next time if it's a girl.  I don't think I want a set next time though...and we only paid $44 for ours this time around.
  • Nothing. We're not finding out the sex but if we were, like the PP said, I'm more drawn to gender neutral stuff anyway. I don't like the blue for boys/pink for girls thing.

  • All our gear is gender neutral. I've seen very few big items that would only work for boys, while there are tons you would only use for a girl. The only things we've bought or registered for that are boyish are some blankets, towels and clothes. The Boppy and slipcover I picked are supposed to be for a boy (both are mainly blue) but either could work for girls in a pinch too. Baby stuff is very highly skewed towards girls I think.?

The diaper bag I hope to get is a very dark purple, which I consider to be a neutral color. My slings will probably be in neutral material, but I haven't made them yet so I don't know. Maybe I'll make one very boyish just on principle :)?

  • We registered for the whole Fisher Price Precious Planet activity stuff and that is gender neutral as is our pack n play, travel system, swing.  Boy stuff included Bumbo (who knows if he will like it), accessories for bedding, some clothing, etc.  I figured who cares about things for around the house like hooded towels if they are boyish and we have a girl the next time around??

We are first timers and have nothing!

  • I couldn't resist registering for girl stuff.  I registered for a bouncer, swing, and diaper bag that are for a girl.

  • We're not doing ANY of the big things that are just for one sex or the other.  I want to be able to reuse anything if we hopefully can have another child someday.  But I am going to buy/register for some boy or girl things just for fun and I don't want everything in neutral colors.  Luckily - I'd be doing the same nursery for either or so I haven't had too worry too much about what the baby's sex is. (If it's a girl, some fabrics I choose for my Etsy bedding might be a bit more girly, but same colors).
  • Just about everything will be gender-neutral so we can reuse with baby #2.  Clothing and other apperel will be gender-specific and maybe some odds and ends for the nursery.  I've been eyeing some really cute cloth diapers but for now just buying the stuff that could go either way.

  • I'm going to try to do as much gender neutral as possible.  I want a neutral pack and play, swing, bouncer, bumbo, anything big like that.  The boppy I'll probably get girly because I can always buy different covers later.  The infant seat will be neutral, but I'll probably get a girly convertible seat since they're in that for so long that she will (God willing) still be in it when we have a second child.
