What's the deal with sleep positioners?

I have heard mixed reviews...ranging from they are not considered safe, to they are great...i'm confused? Anyone getting one of these or have any info on them? Thanks!

  • I have read that some studies suggest they are not safe.  I asked my doc about it though and he said it was fine to use, so I did with no problems.  I liked the peace of mind of knowing baby was staying in one place.  I haven't decided if I will use it with baby #2.  I would just ask your pediatrician if you are interested in using one.

  • I was thinking about getting a snuggle nest but... I guess I don't really know much about the whole sleep positioner thing.  I didn't know that they were considered unsafe.  I guess it might kind of be like the whole bumper pads thing.  Meh... whatever, I'm all about nifty little things, lol!

  • I had one with DS but ended up using a rolled up blanket instead.  We would swaddle him, then roll up a blanket and alternate sides that we put it under to avoid a flat spot on his head.  We did it to tilt him slightly, not a lot.
  • I've read they are not needed. I registered for a cheap one.
  • I've heard you don't need them unless the baby has reflux problems. We're not buying or registering for one. If it turns out the baby needs one, we'll go out and get one. But I think it's just another thing to sell.

  • I got a used one from someone I bought something else from. If we use it we do, and if we don't we don't. I don't think they would sell them if they were unsafe.....

    Do you really think that?

They are great to keep the baby in place and also to make them feel tight, secure and cozy.  A newborn gets comfort in a snug environment.  The one we used had air flow vents and was breathable.  Bought it at BRU.  As soon as she started squirming away from it and out of it (about 2 1/2 months), we took it out.

     We had this one.

  • On the show "the doctors" they said not to use them unless your pediatrician said to.  They said they are sometimes good for babies with colic or acid reflux.
