just curious... I've been thinking of trying it (I already pump but have a terrible supply) because they eat so much more these days formula is getting crazy expensive. What do you think?
Re: anyone read this re: domperidone?
I've been taking it for about 2 months...take a peek at the date of the article. Its REALLY old, for medical information
It is considered a class C drug- which doesnt mean it is bad...it means it hasn't been put thru testing....it has been used for YEARS and MANY ladies take it....
it works wonders! I took fenugreek and BT and to no avail...Domperidone is the only thing that worked
p.s. I am a LC and a RN....and we recommend it all the time....that being said you should NEVER take a medication without your doctor knowing about it...
as far as not taking meds for an off label use...this simply is so unrealistic....if we were to abide by that we would need to stop a lot of things
Benedryl was actually intended to be used as an anti-psychotic
Morphine is the same chemical make up as heroine
Fenugreek is an herbal as well as BT and NEITHER of those are monitored or tested by the FDA
Sorry for being so bold about this...but this is something that really gets me going
Here's the info that my hospital gave me when they recommended that I start Dom (written by jack Newman):

Basically, 2 people died when getting the drug by IV back in the 80's and they were alreasdy sick to begin with. I take Dom and have had the full support of my LC, OB and Pedi.
GL with your decision.
My point wasn't that you should never take anything off label - but that you should not take something off label that there is a warning about. Now I didn't see the date of the info - that might have told me to look for something more up to date. In all I would never take any drug off label when there was a warning saying that taking it for that purpose could be harmful or fatal - to me that would just be common sense.
If your doctor says it can be taken safely - fine - but given only the information in the link presented - I'd never chance it. I never had to take anything prescription because the fenugreek and blessed thistle almost doubled my supply and I had plenty of milk.
Susan- I know you didnt mean it that way....nor did I mean it to sound like I was coming down on you.... I was trying to say that I was frustrated w/ the negative info out there when there is a great deal of positive too. I just hate that in the USA we scare patients into refusing meds because of the almighty FDA, when the majority of the time the FDA is light years behind the rest of the world. Im sorry if it felt like I was directing my reply at you...I certainly didn't mean it that way... I meant it to be informative and to express my frustration. I am glad that fenu and bt worked for you... I was on the max dose of them both and had NO change in my supply.
I'm glad you posted this, I was just asking my GP's office about domperidone today! (The nurse had never heard of it and told me to ask my OB).
I agree with the pp though, the FDA is ridiculously biased and behind on the time. That said, as a breast-feeding mom, I think caution is always the word of the day. I plan to ask my OB about it soon..I am very worried about my supply!
