Taggie Blankets - How much would you pay?

So I've made a bunch of Taggie Blankets for my girls and friends and family.  Anyway, I need to make another one for DD#2 (or maybe 2 more) since that has become her lovey plus I'm planning to make one for SIL's little girl due in April as soon as she and bro decide on a name.  I usually do satin on one side and minky on the other with little taggie ribbons all the way around.  They're about 18 inches square.  I'm thinking about getting a little extra fabric and selling a few on ebay but I don't know if it's worth it.  What would you pay for a little taggie blanket?  Would you pay more if it were embroidared with the baby's name/initials?  How much more?  (I don't have the machine that can do the embroidary so I need to bring it to a lady I know who does it but it's not cheap.)

  • I thought pincushion said one time, that those can not be made and sold because of copyright.  I could be totally wrong, but you might want to double check.

  • Thanks!  I'll check.  I thought you just couldn't call them "Taggies" specifically.  But I'll definitely look into it.
  • 20-25?   It depends on how they looked.   Embroriary usually runs aboiut 8 bucks up here.

  • I'd do a price check on etsy.
  • I just checked ebay and they're selling for like $15 and less personalized.  With $10 for embroidery plus the cost of the fabric and such, it doesn't look worth my time.  Thanks, ladies!

it is illegal to sell ANY Blanket where there is tags sticking out of the fabric.

It is illegal for me to post the email that their lawyer sent!

But I do know that they pulled all my listings with blankets in them and also Abby&Jinxy had her blankets pulled.

there are people that still sell them but I think they are slowly getting pulled as well. They have on the Taggies website a link that allows you to turn sellers in! How crappy is that.

her blankets are ugly and are now made in a sweatshop!

Wow!  That sucks!  I never liked the ones I could find (which is why I ended up making my own).  There are tons on ebay but doesn't sound like it's worth the hassle.  I can't believe they went so far as to basically copyright the whole concept.  In fact, I'm surprised they could.  I knew they could trademark the name/brand, but weird.  Sorry!!  And thanks for warning me.

  • I know couple nesties make them...I wanted to get 1 or 2 for A Smile I love the homemade ones so much more.

  • The patent is ABSURD!!

I really don't get how I got targeted.. I sold less them 200...it isn't like I was making a HUGE profit or anything.

I think if you keep it low key you'll be fine. I am sure that patent is up soon.

I know the boutiques in my area do no sell Taggies they prefer the handmade better fabric ones... I mean Taggies are the crappy fleece. I can buy crappy fleece at Walmart.

I guess people can patent anything, right?  It should be up soon.  Totally ridiculous.

Still, even without the patent, those prices aren't worth my time/energy.  I'd rather just have an extra one for DD or my niece (or both).  Besides, I try really hard to respect copyrights and patents.  I feel very strongly about mine on my photos and find it hypocritical of me to not respect others' (no matter how ridiculous, I might think they are).
