Breastfeeding

XP: could this be related to breastfeeding?

I'm normally a really healthy person and I never got sick or had a cold once the entire time I was pregnant. But then in the last month, I have woken up to feed the baby in the night with a fever three times. I'm all shivery and achy and I alternate between feeling cold and too hot.I know that mastitis can cause a fever, but I'm not experiencing pain or redness or hard spots in my breasts, so can that be the issue? It is just so weird that after years of not having a fever, I've been running a temperature 3 times in such a short period of time. Does breastfeeding compromise your immune system in order to boost the baby's? Has anyone else ever experienced this?

  • I don't think so. Maybe it's just lack of sleep lowering your immunity that's the culprit. There are studies that show that fewer people exposed to the cold virus who slept 8 hours developed the cold than those who slept less. I'd say to see your doctor, though.

  • I got feavers alot when DS what younger. I think it did have to do with lack of sleep. Even still when I forget to take my Prenatal vitamins a couple days in a row it never fails and I get sick. Being a mom takes alot out of you
