2nd Trimester

Anyone else accused of...(VENT)

standing "sway back"??????

This is driving me NUTS!!!!!!!!!!  My family sends each other "Family Update Emails" (so we don't have to write lots of different people the same email).  Since I've been pg, I've sent updates about that, of course, and sometimes attach a picture of me (or me and DH) so everyone could see the "baby bump" grow.

Since the very first picture, I've heard comments (usually said to another family member and then I hear it down the line) that "She's just poking her belly out...", "The way she's pushing her back out makes it look like she's just pushing out her stomach", etc.  URRGGGH.  I have a very small frame, IDK if that has anything to do with it, but I don't think so.  I would never seriously push my belly out for a picture.....I want everyone to be able to really see how big baby is getting, why in the world would I do that?  And it seriously doesn't even LOOK like I'm trying to "push out my belly" or w/e.  To me, my back looks completely NORMAL!!!!  Who has a completely straight spine???  Don't most people's spines arch at the bottom???  It irritates me to no end!!

We hadn't heard any comments like that recently, and DH and I were talking about it just last week and he was saying he hoped he didn't hear anyone else say that because it was pissing him off as well.  I told him I doubt we'd hear it anymore now that I'm showing pretty good.  WRONG!

This past weekend, I was visiting family and my gma came to see me.  She wanted to get a picture, so I did the typical pose to the side so she could get a good shot of the belly like she wanted.  Then I hear, "Okay, but don't stand sway-back"..........seriously.........I just looked at her for a second and finally bluntly said, "I can't stand any other way!" (pg or not!!).  DH wasn't in the room when it happened, I wish he had been.  I didn't even want my pic taken after that.

DH says just not to send any more pictures in the family update.  I think he's right, and we can just send them to a few select family members who know I'm standing NORMAL.

*phew* I feel better now! :D  Just needed a good vent! :)

  • My back kind of does that too, but no one ever commented on it. I agree with your H; no more pics with the updates!

Here's a pic (if I did this right) taken the day before she took her pic.

  • I think the way you're standing is pretty normal and you definitely have a baby bump.  Ignore the family's comments, you're getting awfully worked up over something that should be a minor annoyance.
  • It wouldn't make much sense for you to arch your back to make your belly look bigger--it doesn't work; it just makes your back look arched.  I'm not sure why they think you would do that?

You're are supposed to have a curve to your back, but it's not supposed to be too severe.  If it is, it can cause back aches (especially as you get older).  It's possible that you do have a more pronounced curve and that's what your family is seeing.  For back health, you should try to tuck your hips under (as my pilates instructor continually harps on me to do, but I mostly fail at).

  • I heard i was pushing out too. but if you look at my picture, its the way my back is... Good Luck

  • Your shoulders are square with your hips, so you're not sticking out you're belly. Sounds like they are just jealous that you are so skinny and actually have a curve to your lower back unlike many of who just have back fat that fills in down there and makes our backs look straight up and down. haha! Ignore them, you're adorable.
  • Theres no doubt you have a very pronounced baby bump. Sorry they are being so rude!

  • It doesn't look like you're pushing out your stomach. It's such a cute baby bump! I'd just ignore them.

  • You're not standing sway backed. Your belly is curved to the front which makes your back seem like it's curved more than it is. That's not standing a certain way, that's simply a visual effect. Criminy, we went over that kind of thing in middle school art class. Someone accused me of trying to poke my belly out the other day by curving my back, too. Bah.
