Despite PTL and all my contractions, my cervix has been holding strong at 1.7 cm for about a month and I had a negative fFn yesterday. My doctor was joking around with me saying that he's been able to get a triplet mom to 37 weeks. Poor thing must have been miserable, but she did it. That got me thinking about whether or not her babies needed any NICU time, I forgot to ask.
It's weird, but I'm kinda looking forward to some NICU time (of course assuming that they're healthy and will just need some assistance eating, etc) so I can recover from both the several weeks of hospital bed rest and the c section. My muscles are so weak right now between being in bed and the magnesium, that I feel like its going to be hard to keep up. Even my grasp is so weak that it was hard to take off the lid on my yogurt this morning.I'm also looking forward to having the extra help right away to get them on a sleeping/eating schedule. I don't know how I'd adjust to bringing them all home right away.
Re: Anyone not need NICU time?
I started having trouble with ptl around 28w. I was on bedrest and was allowed to start doing things around 36w (but to take it easy). At 36w I was misrable and wanting the babies out. They never thought I'd make it to my just in case 38w2d induction. Once they realized how misrable I was at 36 weeks they tried to move my induction date, but hospital was booked for indcutions. I made it to 37w6d and went into labor on my own.?
No NICU time for us. ?

I delivered my triplets at 35 weeks and 6 days - scheduled c-section. It was originally scheduled for 36 weeks and 3 days but b/c of hospital scheduling, it had to be changed. My doctor would not let me go past that due to the fact that my first baby was bornstill.
My girls weighed 5.3, 4.13 & 4.13. Two of them came home with me after my 4 day stay in the hospital. The third one would have come home with me as well had she not had spina bifida, which required immediate surgeries. The two that came home with me never went to the NICU - they spent two days in the special care nursery for observation and then roomed in with me (during the day - I sent them to the nursery at night.)
I delivered at exactly 35 weeks and my small twin needed no NICU time. He was 5 lbs 3oz. My bigger twin (6lbs 6oz) needed only 6 days.
Although I was able to take Alex home with me, it was difficult leaving Cole in the NICU. Yes, it was great to only have one baby to care for, but DH and I spent two days running back and forth between the hospital trying to visit Cole. This did not make my c-section recovery any easier and the stress of him being there was tough on me. I honestly found it more difficult to rest once I was released from the hospital. My advice for you would be to rest as much as you can in the hospital after your c-section and try to have as much help at home as possible.
Congrats for almost making it to 30 weeks so far. That's awesome!!
I didn't! I went to 38 weeks with no problem. Well, ok, sleeping sucked the last couple of weeks but other than that no problem at all.
I don't think you want NICU. That's a pretty hard road for them AND you. If you are concerned though, can you get some help? Either a relative, or a night nurse to help you once you get home? Its pricey but the help can be worth every dime.
My mom stayed with us for 3 weeks and her help was invaluable. Definitely get some if you can!
My twins were delivered at 38 weeks. No NICU time.
I had a c-section with my twins at 37 weeks and we had no NICU time.
