1st Trimester

What are you eating?

I really want to eat healthy during my pregnancy and control my weight gain.  I read online "don't eat this, don't eat that".  Then I went to see the physician's assistant at my doctor's office and she said "you can have everything in moderation" except certain big fish - swordfish, grouper - and no shellfish.  Specifically, I'm not sure what to eat for lunch 'cause I don't want to bring a lunch to work everyday and I'm afraid of eating deli meats and of food poisoning.  Before getting pregnant I usually ate a 6" veggie or turkey sub from subway. Maybe I'll just stick to the veggie sub......suggestions?

Re: What are you eating?

  • Everything is fine in moderation.  Including deli meat.  If you are nervous, just heat it up.

& you can get food poisoning even when you're not pregnant, so that really shouldn't be a worry...you can't control that.

  • I'm going to continue to eat like I did before getting pregnant. I had oatmeal with a banana for breakfast, for lunch: salad or soup, orange, yogurt and crackers and for dinner brown rice with chicken or fish and some veggies. I would snack on fruit, granola bars, cookies and different crackers.

  • I agree, everything in moderation.  For the first 6 weeks I was super paranoid and did not eat anything that was on any internet " do no eat list".  I finally gave in last week and had tuna salad one day and pastrami sandwich on rye-another.

As long as we are mindful of what we are eating and how much of it- I think its OK to indulge every once in awhile.

  • I ate deli meat every day during my first pregnancy.  (I know that doesn't mean anything, but I'm just saying.  I did it.)

Right now, I'm on a bit of a soup kick.  Lots of takeout lunch places do a cup or bread bowl of soup, or a soup/salad combo.  You could also do chicken salad sandwiches.  Yum.

  • I don't eat deli meat, but that is mainly because I don't like it.  I eat tuna every once in awhile.  If you look at the american pregnancy site it has the fish list and which ones you can eat and how much.  You can have some shellfish like crab, which is good because we had crab stuffed flounder for dinner last night.

Pretty much I eat pizza because that is all I can stomach which is weird,  Eat what you want, in moderation, and just keep active.
