So I consider myself to be a fairly responsible dog owner. They are always kept on leash and I always pick up their poop. Why can't everyone be that way?
My DH and I just took our dogs for a welk around the neighborhood and the damn huge ass neighbor dog (the one who's owner is like 22, and doesn't pick up dog crap) was off leash, started growling, charged at us. Luckly I was able to pick up our little 7lb shih-tzu mix in time (thank god he didn't still try to bite her and get my stomach instead...the thought sickens me). So instead he went straight for our lab's neck. Nice. It's one thing to have a nice dog off leash, but why a mean aggressive one?
Everyone came out undamaged. Well, except for the dog's owner who met my DH for the first time...lol. No fists, just words. He called my DH rude - WHAT???? Idiot.
I can't get my adrenaline back down, irresponsible people piss me off so bad!!!
Vent over.
Re: NBR VENT: Idiot Dog Owners
Yes, I hate it too. Nobody has to get a dog...so if you can't handle the responsibility, don't get one!
My neighbours are dog abusers. They lock their dogs up in the house all day and they howl continually. I've had to report them so many times to the By Laws Officer here in the City, I've finally agreed to testify in court against them. They are horrible. They never walk their dogs, they let them out into their backyard and then never clean up after them. It's particularly lovely to experience that from our beautifully landscaped backyard in the middle of a hot summer. NOT. I have to use scented candles outside to make it bearable.
SCUM.?
That is so scary! My Shih-tzu mix (little white dog in my siggy) was attacked by a German Shepherd a few years ago. It was terrible. My H was walking out the dogs on their legal (less than 6 feet) leashes in our neighborhood. The other dog escaped out of it's yard. The dog had been known to be aggressive and the owners did nothing about it. This was the 2nd time he had gone after my little Parker. Luckily, the 1st time my H was able to swing her in the air by her leash and catch her. The second time he wasn't so lucky. It took 3 people to wrestle her out of this dog's mouth.
She needed about 20 stitches, her knee cap was broken, she wore a cast and was always at the vet. We missed a lot of work and had to find people to dogsit her during the day when we did work. It was terrible. She even had this little drainage tube coming out of her. The owners of the other dog were totally cool at first, but once the vet bills came in (it totaled a little over $1300), they became difficult. They even blamed the attack on Parker b/c she "lagging behind". She was on her leash!
They eventually paid, but I get so annoyed b/c we are good dog owners. They are cleaned after, not allowed to bark execessively, etc. Why can't everyone be like that?
We haven't encountered the off-leash issue yet (thankfully) but one of the houses behind us has a big dog that barks all.the.time. Seriously, let your dog in or something.. or at least try to quiet them when they bark at all hours of the day and night! It drives me insane.?
I'm sorry you had a run-in with that dog (and its asshat owner) today.. but thank goodness nobody was harmed!?
The O'Baby Blog
Oh wow that is scary. I am fairly short too, so It's not like I can just hold a dog or baby above my head to save it - big dogs can easily jump that high!
I have two yorkshire terriers and I think when you have a small breed you worry about other dogs behavior more. Even if another large dog is trying to be playful some owners just don't understand how easily that dog can hurt my dogs.
I totally agree- expect for one part. I don't think it's ever okay to have an dog nice or agressive off leash.
I've got two beagles who wouldn't hurt a fly, but the could totally knock a little kid over while trying to lick and love him/her.
This is totally a pet peeve for me. Unfortunately, the one whose dogs are off their leash are often not the most considerate. So, saying anything to them is usually futile (doesn't ever stop me, though).
Sorry it happened, I know how it can get your blood boiling!
Are there leash laws where you live? I'd call and report him.
I'm glad no one got hurt. I am a huge dog lover, but when it comes down to me vs. dog...any means to get it away from me does not count as abuse. You do whatcha' gotta do to protect yourself.

Your poor doggy! I'm so glad it's ok. I can't imagine that happening. You are nice to say the owners were cool, I wouldn't have been able to think that no matter what. I guess it's not like they let it out or anything though, dogs can escape backyards I suppose. So scary though! It makes going on walks scary, especially alone, think DH will have to go with me all the time now!
first: what does being 22 have to do with anything
second: I hate when ppl dont pick up after their dogs! its so gross i would be pissed
third: we usually have our dog on a leash unless we go to a big open field or park and let him run... when people dont tell or care if their dogs are jumping around on ppl that is annoying
You're right I shouldn't have used his age to insinuate irresponsibility. I guess I was a responsible dog owner at that age too. Mostly I guess because I'm practially ancient compared to him - lol. He's just a punk, loud music, cigarette butts everywhere, swearing for all the neighbor kids to hear, irresponsible dog owner...the list goes on.
I think it was the worst thing I have gone through so far. She is my best buddy. When it first happened, the owners told my H to get her to the vet asap and send them the bills. Once the bills started rolling in, they started saying how the dog actually belonged to their 90 year-old mother who had no money, They were trying to make us feel guilty. Well, it didn't work. Oh, and I avoided thier street until we moved,
Maybe it's a shih-tzu mix thing. They are irresistible!
Agreed. My sister's shih-tzu would bite a hand off way before our 55lb lab would! I love big dogs, my dream dog is a Great Dane. Not ideal for a townhouse though...
Agreed, I would want to attack my doggie too, she's so damn cute!
Actually Great Danes are fine w/living in an apt even. A lot of big dogs are better in smaller spaces than you would think. I love danes, they're so sweet.
Yes, my DH is so unconfrontational he probably would have just let it go... pisses me off...
Very true. My biggest (70 lbs) is the biggest couch potato of them all. I find usually the smaller to mid size dogs need the most room and exercise. This is all a moot point to me of course though since I don't believe in buying purebreds, but only adopting. There are great dane rescues though!
Yeah I'm sure one would be fine here, I'm just not prepared for a 3rd dog in a townhouse! Especially with a little one on the way! I have to somewhat keep my sanity! Our next dog will be a Dane though!

Sorry about all the post, computer went crazy.
I was going to say my doberman is scared of any type of little dog, strange because he is over 70 pounds! But I think all dogs should be kept on leash.
This makes me cry...coming from an animal lover, it makes me sick to even hear about people who can be so cruel to an animal that gives so much unconditional love. Animal Planet is not allowed to be watched in my house, Animal Cops breaks my heart!
