Will I see a heartbeat at 6w3d?

I know most people do but my betas were off to a slow start so I'm afraid we won't see a heartbeat at my first u/s tomorrow and then I'll be all stressed out and worried again.  I'm finally starting to relax and feel like I'm really pg.  My first beta at 17dpo (14dp3dt) was only 76, beta 48 hours later was 117 and beta 3 finally doubled and was 246.  But 246 at exactly 5 weeks is so low compared to everyone else.  Does that mean that my baby is growing slower and I won't see a hb tomorrow?  Does that mean I don't have a baby at all?  I'm so freaked out that we have a blighted ovum or won't even see anything.  DH is being very positive and still hoping for twins but I'm almost sure we will be lucky to even have one since my betas were so low.  Do my low betas mean a later heartbeat?

  • I would say it is very possible that you just had a late implanter/slow starter...but I don't know much about that.  I do know that you need a beta of at least 1,000 before you will see anything in your uterus (even just the tiny dot that is the sac).  My beta at 5 weeks was 1676 and all we saw was a tiny sac...I could barely even see it! I wouldn't get too discouraged if you can't see a heatbeat yet because you might just not have progressed that far.  Are you getting another beta?  I think as long as it is rising like it has been than you have every reason to be optimistic!! Good luck!! I'll be praying for good news at your ultrasound!!!

  • Hopefully you'll see a heartbeat tomorrow and all this worry will be for naught!  I know sometimes the sac is on the smaller side and you don't see a heartbeat this early, so just hang in there either way.  As long as the sac is in the right place, you should be on the right track.

Good luck--I'll be thinking of you tomorrow!

  • I am not sure if lower betas to start mean slower development.  I know my RE won't do any u/s until 6w3d b/c he said that at that point most of the time you can see a hb.  I will be praying that your u/s looks great and that you see the heartbeat!!
  • I did not at 6 wks but I did at 6 wks and 6 days. So it just depends.  GL!!!!

  • I can give you my story which is somewhat similar?  My first beta was 16.2.  48 hours later, it doubled to 35.  They didn't have me do #3 until 5 days later and it was 401.5 at that time.  And they think it was simply because I had a late implanter.

I had my first u/s at 5w4d and all I saw was a gestational sac and a yolk sac.  Then at my next u/s, at 6w4d, we did, in fact, see a heartbeat - beating at 116 bpm.

While every case is different, I am going to say I think you have a pretty good chance of seeing a heartbeat.  Good luck!

  • We saw a heartbeat at 6w4d and my first beta started at 70. The RE didn't try to listen to it and didn't tell us how fast it was beating, but we did see the blinking. Good luck tomorrow....my fingers are crossed that you'll see it!

  • My first beta was around yours and was in the 60s. We did see a heartbeat at 6w4d, so I would expect to, yes.
  • I would expect that you will see a h/b but don't be too upset if you don't. Some people don't see them until 7 weeks.

  • There is a good chance that you may be able to see it.  However, they were not able to see it at 6w3d for me, but it was beating away at 7w3d, so don't worry if they can't see anything.  GL!
  • You should. We had no problem seeing ours at 5w6d. GL!

  • my first Beta was a 22.  We were able to see a heartbeat at 6 weeks and a few days.  They did not measure it or listen to it, just saw the flashing.
  • we saw it at 6w2d - but it is still early.
