1st Trimester

Still not telling anyone...

So I'm going to be 11 weeks, and due to a very paranoid/superstitious DH, haven't told my mom, in-laws, or anyone (except 2 close friends). Its really driving me crazy not being able to tell my mom -- I'm planning to wait another week and a half. I'm her ony child, so I know she'll be super excited. My BFF on the other hand had a long conversation with me the other day about how awful she thinks it would be to have a baby right now given how busy work can get. Ugh. Now I'm not sure I wanna tell her. Is anyone else waiting till after the first tri to tell?

Re: Still not telling anyone...

  • I think you should tell your mom when when you're ready, it shouldn't matter what your bff's opinion is on when is a good time to have a baby.  GL!

  • We are waiting until Easter to tell the family, which will actually be right around the 12th week. ?Our family is out of town, so this just makes the most sense and its good timing as well! ?We actually went home the Friday that I got my BFP, and my mom guessed it. ?So much for mother's intuition, huh?!! ?Good luck keeping the secret...it sure is hard!
  • We have pretty much just told our parents. I haven't told by BFF yet and it is so weird to keep the secret, but I am just cautious.?
  • Tell when you are ready - dont worry about anyone or anything else. We are going to wait until at least 12 weeks.
  • My DH is like yours. We will wait as long as we can. We might tell our parents at 8 weeks after my first appointment.

  • I am waiting until after my ultrasound. So, I will be almost 4 months..
  • We are waiting until Easter weekend too. It is my dad's birthday and just seems to make sense. We just feel better waiting until the first trimester is over. But it sure is hard to keep the secret!
  • we waited till 11 weeks...we wanted to wait till 12 but we cracked under pressure!

  • We told just about everyone the night we got our BFP, Im not superstitious(sp). And I could never keep a secret!
  • We told our parents and siblings as soon as we got a BFP.  I figure no matter what I need them by me-- I would die if I could not tell my Mom or my sisters.  And as far as friends and grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins... that will be on Easter and around there-- so at 11 weeks and some.

  • We are waiting to tell our family after our first appt which will be at almost 9 weeks.
  • we told our parents 2 days after we found out which was the day of our 1st dr. visit!
  • I would tell your mom-she will be a big support to you no matter what happens.  We told our parents and a few select other people so far.  Otherwise we are waiting until the 12 week mark to tell everyone else.  It's been hard keeping it a secret, but I will feel much better telling once I'm done with the first trimester.
  • We're having our first ultrasound at 12w1d (in two weeks). We're planning to tell my parents and siblings the following weekend at 13 weeks. (and then everyone else)

At this point, I've only told the people who need to know: my doctors and nurses, the dentist, and my massage therapist. Its been hard, but I also like having a secret :)

  • According to my doctor (and they probably will all say something different), there are 2 real safe points, and the end of the trimester isn't one of the.

    1.  Hearing/seeing the heartbeat

    2.  10 weeks

He told me if you get to both those points, you are as safe as you are going to be at any later point in the pregnancy.  Not 100% safe, of course, because it's never 100%.

  • I'm around DH and my families a lot, so we had to tell them early because I had m/s all the time. We're all very close, so I could not imagine keeping the big secret from them!
