I voted even though this will be my first. But I worked in a day care and they had one. It was crap, and everything still smelled. We won't be getting one for our house.
Was this the old Diaper Genie? There is a new one, the Diaper Genie II elite - we have never had a problem with smell or anything. It's wonderful.
i didnt vote, because i dont have one yet, but i WILL be getting one. the FI has 2 kids from a precious marriage and reccomends it, and i have never heard anyone say anything about the smell.. i plan on using it mostly for #1 diapers.. #2's will hopefully be escorted to the back porch by FI haha
BIL says it's a waste of money. They got a new one at their shower in November and he says it doesn't work any better with keeping out smells than a regular lidded trashcan.?

i voted yes- but we have the diaper champ. It's OK - only worked well for poopie diapers until DS started to eat real foods- b/c then it just stunk like crazy- so we'd just put his diapers in a garbage out on the back porch.
we'll use the champ again for the twins- until they are on regular food, too.
you can make due with any type of garbage that has a closed lid if you want.
we are going to register for one or two. (i say one to see how we like it- my H is convinced we need 2 because 2 coworkers told him to get one for upstairs or downstairs).
I am however torn between the diaper genie 2 elite, and the diaper dekor- which got good reviews in baby bargains and does convert to a regular trashcan so it will maintain it's usability (if that is even a word)

Same exact experience. With Diaper Champ. After a while we only put #1 diapers in there and #2 were immediately tied up in a bag and thrown in the trash can in the garage.
I had the Diaper Genie for my first and Diaper Dekor for my second. Both were a waste of money, IMO. The refills were expensive and a pain to change and empty.
I got a brand-new free Diaper Champ for this baby. You can use regular trash bags with this brand. My sister has it and says it's great for the infant stage. But once they start eating foods, it's useless because the diapers stink too bad.
First time mom but I've been told by family and friends that the Diaper Genie was a waste. We'll be buying 2 regular garbage cans with lids.
I didn't vote, but I have heard this over and over. We're just getting a step-open lidded garbage can. (Besides, I have heard they don't work well for cloth diapers anyway b/c the CDs are too bulky).

Totally agree. The only time I think it would not be useful is if you are using cloth diapers.

i recommend the diaper genie II or the elite. the original doesn't work very well.
i have the diaper genie II and it works great. i couldn't imagine not having it b/c DS's room would stink like crazy if we didn't.
