Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Ideal month to have a baby?

Even though DH really wants all fall/winter babies,  I would say April or May.  Here in the artic of NoDak, it doesn't get warm until then.  I would love to carry a newborn in just the sling as opposed to the car seat, in a snowsuit, with a cover and a blanket!

Re: Ideal month to have a baby?

  • Definitely spring.  DS was supposed to be a March baby, and I was pretty excited about that.  My birthday's in April and I think it's perfect :)

  • I would agree with you!  We live in AZ so it's the opposite here, but being pregnant in the summer (which starts, well, NOW!) is no fun!

OH!!!  I want to be there!  I am so cold here!  The weather channel website says it is 6 degrees here now, but feels like -13 with windchill.  I want to put hats, coats & mittons away!  I want to save on gas from not warming the van all the time.  I want to run out of the house with the kids quickly w/o bundling up.  I want to take the girls on a WALK to the damn park!

  • I would love to have my next one anywhere between April and June that way its warmer than February.  It was so hard to keep DD warm enough but not to warm last year.  I would love to just have to put the next one in a nice sleeper and forget about it instead of figuring out how many layers is to many or not enough.
  • My DD was born in March here in MN, and we'll be trying for another March/April/May baby this summer. Now that she's just starting to walk, she'll be able to run and play at the park once it warms up here!
  • Anytime but flu season.  Madeleine's pedi did not want me to take her out in public for the first two months of her life.  Oh, come on!  I know the flu is dangerous in a newborn, but I was going nuts.  Hopefully I will not have another winter baby.
  • i think may would be a good month

  • I would think that April or May, winter birthdays suck.

My birthday is in December and I was always jealous of my friends who could have outdoor birthday parties. Or even birthdays that were not during the Christmas season.

  • I think DS's birthday is perfect!  April 30th was a great day to have a baby.  It was warm enough that I could take multiple walks a day if he was super fussy (he was only quiet outside).  I don't know what I would have done if I was cooped up inside!
  • April / May is best IMO, but that's because DH is a teacher (and I used to teach, too).  DS was born in March, but it worked out because Spring break was about two weeks later.  It was definitely nice to have DH home.

  • For me, spring months...March, April, May. I'm a teacher and it gives me the most time off...maternity leave right into summer break. I got 5 months off with DD! Going to try for an April baby this time though...

I also liked that DD was an older baby by the time winter hit.

Oh, I'm an April baby and DH was born in May

  • DS was born in March, tomorrow is his birthday, and I'd like to try for another March baby. I'm in NJ and it was nice that is was kind of chilly when we got home so I didn't mind being in the house but it wasn't so bad that I couldn't take him out if I wanted to. He was a fun age for the summer too and I can't wait for this summer when he's able to really have a good time.

  • i live in phoenix and JANUARY was perfect!
  • May 30th was PERFECT!  I was not hot during pregnancy, I was not REALLY big and clumsy during the winter, and there was plenty of time for Connor to be outside his first few months.
  • Definitely hoping for an April/May/June baby next time.  Having DD in early February and being totally cooped up was not ideal.  I would love to be able to go for walks and just be outside during that time.

  • In an ideal world, for me, November. In the real world, I will probably want to have my next DC in the late spring/early summer, since I'm going to be teaching within the next year and, even though I'll probably take at least one semester off to stay home, I would like to be able to have the whole summer with my new LO and DD, to help with the adjustment period.

ETA: We lived in FL when DD was born in October, and it was perfect because we had a very hot "winter" in 2007. Now that we're living in PA, though, as much as I would love to have another Autumn Baby, I think that waiting until the Spring would be better weather-wise, in addition to the time off as a teacher...

  • I have thought April or May would be the best months to have a baby.  I got lucky and will be having a late May baby.  I like that Natalie has a July birthday...it makes for having her birthday parties outside, which is lots of fun!  I honestly wouldn't mind having a baby in October or December, either.  No real reason, though....just like those months. ; )

  • I can see the appeal of having the baby in March or April, but having been 40w pregnant at Christmas, I am so glad that I missed the worst of winter while I had no balance. The mountains here don't just get snow, we get ice and horrible wind, and when you add in everything being on a 45 degree angle, well, February would have been a real biitch.
  • I loved having a Feb baby b/c by the time I felt ready to get out and about, spring was on the horizon. Like pp mentioned, since I'm a teacher it worked out perfectly for me and I was able to spend 6 months with DS. We were hoping for the same time for the next one buuuut it didn't work out that way :) And I loved wearing DS in my Moby.

So now I'm psyching myself up for a September/Oct baby. Things I'm looking foward to are just bundling the baby up in a bundleme in the infant seat rather than dealing with coats, and by the time baby is on the move, it will be nice out. It's been really hard with a walker in the dead of winter. We are both so bored in the house.

I will miss babywearing though :(

  • For me personally, December. I'm in retail and it would be amazing to have paid-time off to spend with (new) family during the holidays.
