labor prep exercises

are you guys doing exercises to prep for labor?  i'm really scared of the process- even though  i know i shouldn't be, so i've been going crazy with the kegels and i'm doing this thing where i'm on all fours and i lift my opposite arm and leg at the same time to strengthen my core.  i also watch my favorite tv shows on my balance ball.

Re: labor prep exercises

  • Ha that is impressive! Thanks for the reminder about kegels. I haven't been doing anything... this coming from the girl that the nurses talked about a year after my daughters birth, because they had never heard someone scream so loud. LOL. I figure I made it through that, I can do it again. :)

  • My yoga class does a lot of labor prep poses and such, so I practice those at home some. Squatting especially.

And I'm trying to remember to do my kegels pretty often

  • There is a labor and delivery prep section on my FitMama prenatal fitness DVD.  I've been too lazy to start doing it yet, but I will start as I get closer to my due date.
  • My Lamaze instructor recommended (especially if you have a "desk job" or sit a lot) doing a pose where essentially you just get on all fours in a crawling position and let your belly hang down; she said it helps the baby flip around so it's face down and you don't end up having back labor.  Who knows if it really works or not, but I did not do it w/ DS, and he did end up being "sunny side up" (face up), so I did have back labor, which was freaking awful, and ultimately him being in that position (and being so big) prevented him from fully descending and I ended up w/ an emergency c/s after 27+hours of labor (and 3+ of pushing).  If I didn't have to have another c/s, I would be in that pose all the time to avoid going through back labor again.
