Babies: 9 - 12 Months

"$130 a month isn't bad"

This is what my co-worker actually said to me when I answered her question about daycare. She asked "How much do you pay for daycare?" I responded with "$130". And that was her response. I was literally crying I was laughing so hard. When she found out that it was a week she nearly started crying! She said "What? How am I supposed to afford that?"

Oh, and in case you moms didn't know, diapers and formula is expensive! Yup, she nearly peed herself when I told her how much a box of diapers were. I suggested she EBF and cloth diaper if she was concerned (I wish I could have) and her response was "eww...that is just gross. On both counts"

UGH...if you remember my previous posts about said co-worker, this should come as NO surprise! I am still laughing!!!!

  • Oh no!  Is this person pregnant? She's in for a rude awaking.

Has she priced baby gear lately??   Confused

  • She sounds like she's in for a treat when the baby arrives.

Although I have to say, $130 a week for daycare is a great price if that is full time- we pay a little more than that for only half the week!

    Peru!

  • Oh yeah, she is pregnant! I hear about it EVERY 30 minutes at work.

Oh, I don't even have enough UMPH to write about how she plans to pick out her baby gear! She had no clue about safety ratings or any consideration one might want to keep in mind other than "I am just going to get whatever as cheap as possible I don't really care what it looks like." She is planning to use  the crib she used when she was a baby. When I asked if it met the current safety standards her actual words were "safety standards? Of course it is safe, it is still together after 28 years."

Keep in mind, this is the same person who is affraid to sneeze because she feels the baby falling out when she does.

I just went to BRU with a friend of mine who is more or less clueless.  She was picking out her travel system based on the pattern.  I was showing her some of the better features of other ones but she didn't carel  The one she picked out, when you fold it it folds to the ground so then you have to bend over to pick it up

  • Yeah, I would kill to pay only that for daycare!  But I live in a really expensive area.

I know what you mean about naive friends, though -- I know I was there not so long ago, but I feel like I was more open to listening to advice from those who had children already...and I'm so glad I did!

  • That's really funny.  If DS goes to daycare full-time in the fall, it would be $340/week for us.  Tell her that amount!  You know, say to her, "I was telling anyone who wanted to listen on the internet about your comments and got this reply....."  Wink

And did she really say that BF is gross?  Lovely.

  • sounds like she has no clue what she's in for. $130 per week is GREAT!

the least expensive place here is $1100 at a local church. everywhere else is between $1500 and $2000.

Eeeeep!  We paid $570 per WEEK for the twins when they were in day care.  I think god every day my parents are watching them now!

  • $500 a week is the going rate here.

I would probably still be working if it was $130 a month!  I miss my job...but it is nice being home with DS.

  • Wow, I really hope she's not pregnant, otherwise she's in for a RUDE awakening!! Daycare at a school is $300-$400 a week here. DS is going to someone's house (a few blocks away from me) he starts on Tuesday, until June, then in September he'll be going to a real school. But even at this lady's house, she still charges $230 a week. It's insane.
