Babies: 0 - 3 Months

the worst part about being in the hospital w/ DS

is actually seeing all the other sick kids.

DS isn't really sick.  He's here as more of a preventative measure so he doesn't get sick later on.  All the nurses make a fuss over him and I didn't quite understand why at first (I mean, he's cute, but these ladies were a bit over the top, seriously) but then one of them said, "He's just so happy and I never see happy babies."  And then of course it all made sense.

We're in the cardiac section and we share a room.  Both of the kids we've shared the room w/ have either had heart surgeries in the past, or that is the purpose of their current hospital stay.  I cry whenever I hear them cry.  I don't know how their parents do it.

Hug your little ones super tight tonight and be thankful they're healthy!

  • I am a pediatric cardiac nurse.  It really is wonderful to see a happy baby.  Most of the kids I see are so tired and weak pre-repair because their hearts just can't keep up.  It is truly heartbreaking to see.
  • I can't imagine what those poor parents go through.  Hope everything goes well with your cutie.
  • I used to volunteer in the nursery of a children's hospital. It was torture on those poor parents.  I can't imagine it.

  • Sad that breaks my heart. A friend of mine's DD is in the hosp with many problems. Her heart stopped three times. Its so sad to see them go through this.

  • DS and I both came down with Group B Strep after his birth (though I tested negative TWICE before his birth!).  He was in the NICU for a bit and that was super scary.  We were both moved to the pediatrics ward and I was so happy to be with him!

The nurses there also LOVED my DS.  He has red hair and they've never seen a red headed baby before.  They fussed over him so much and his every little problem was taken care of: an ingrown toenail, really dry skin.  One night, he had gas really bad...  Another night, he wouldn't sleep and the nurse took him for a walk in the stroller around the hospital.  When we left after two weeks, one of them cried.  They were so sweet.  I think they do get attached to their patients, especially the wee ones.  :o)
