Clogged milk ducts SUCK!

For some reason, I've already had two clogged ducts with DS and its driving me absolutely CRAZY!! It hurts to nurse on that side- like razor blades and on top of that my entire boob is so tender and sore to the touch. I want to just chop that boob off. I'm doing the hot compresses, massaging (which makes me want to scream),nursing a lot... any other ideas? And how do I make sure this stops happening? I only got one clogged duct with DD and that was only because I took an antihistimine...

Re: Clogged milk ducts SUCK!

  • Everytime I get a clogged duct I have  had my DS nurse with his chin pointing to wherever the clog is. I did this with my older DS and it worked like a charm everytime. You definately get to come up with creative nursing postions depending on where the clog is! Hope you feel better soon!

  • I had two clogged ducts early on. I just nursed DD and it wasn't as bad after about two sessions. I also massaged it while she was nursing.
  • Taking a lecithin supplement is supposed to help make your milk less "sticky" - and less likely to clog.  Worth a shot!  kellymom probably has the dosage written about somewhere - don't have a link, sorry but you could search kellymom.  GL!
