Would organic tanner be okay?

This is such a dumb question.  I haven't done any type of tanning since I've been pregnant.  My RE told me not to use sunless tanner b/c of the chemicals.

Now I have a few weddings coming up and I would love to wear a nice dress.  My legs and arms are just SO pale.  Anyway, I will embrace my paleness if it's better for the baby.  I just found an organic sunless tanning lotion that I would like to try.  It's make of "certified organic botanicals".  That should be safe during pregnancy, right??

Re: Would organic tanner be okay?

  • If your doctor said no self tanner, then organic is irrelevant. Remember,  poisons can be organic!

  • I used regular tanner from Sephora.. I took the bottle to my OB and he looked at the ingrediants and told me to go ahead.. He also said I could do a spray tan (booth kind) once or twice during my pregnancy.  Not frequently, but okay for a special occasion....  just make sure it doesn't contain salastylic acid (sp?) it's basically asprin and a no no...
  • I wouldn't do it.  Just because it's organic does not mean it's safe for your baby.  At the least, talk to your OB before using it.
  • Ok, thanks girls.  That's sort of what I expected to hear.  I'll problably keep rockin the paleness to be on the safe side:)
  • Ooppssss....I used one recently & didn't even think twice about it, that is pretty bad. I had a wedding to go to & was wearing bare legs so I just put some on the night before on my legs, one time. I am not really nervous about it to be honest & I think that there has never been anything to prove that it is harmful, especially if you're not planning to slather it on everyday & if you're out of the first trimester... but better safe than sorry of course, ask your OB what s/he thinks if you want to give it a try (although sounds like you're ok w/ not doing it). Just my opinion.

The March of Dimes says it is 'probably fine' to use them. "Probably" since there are no real studies out there.

  • Marijana can be organic too if its certified and grown without pesticides. Wink That doesn't mean it's healthy. lol
