My parents bought one for me from the school when I was in third grade. They had the option to buy one for $8, or for the low upgrade of $3 they would engrave your name on the "shaft" (I imagine that's probably not the correct term, but I'm dirty like that). My parents went for the upgrade - big ballas, yo. bwhaha.
Patrick has a recorder and he can "play" it. He does really well making noise come out of it. I am hoping this means he will have his daddy's mucical abilities.
Recorders were one of my favorite things to teach when I taught elementary school music. ?Believe it or not they are old, well-respected instruments in the period music scene. ?I was part of an early music group in college. ?We played wooden recorders (I played an alto), viola da gambas, krumhorns, psalteries, etc. ?Super geeky but fun!

Even as a music teacher I loathe recorders. They make me want to rip my hair out and I refuse to use them with my classes.
