Babies: 0 - 3 Months

third tri-er with question

I have just been put on bedrest and am trying to prepare for baby and wondered if you all could help (I asked the bedrest ladies, but that didn't really help since they aren;t there yet, I realized I should ask you ladies that would know!)

What clothing do you really need at first? the BRU list seems VERY extensive!  So far we have: 4 swaddlers, 8 long sleeve onsies, 2 gowns and 2 footed sleepers. What else or how many more of each should I have so that I am not running to the store the minute I get home from the hospital?

Re: third tri-er with question

  • I never used the gowns, I only use the footie pj's and the swaddlers and plain onesies when we got home.

  • I recommend getting more gowns. They're the easiest to have on baby when you need to do a quick diaper change. Also, they are looser than the footed sleepers so they don't rub on the umbilical cord stump while it's healing. My parents were staying with us and had to run out to get more gowns for us. Good luck!

  • I never used the gowns either or swaddlers -- i just used receiving blankets and def plain long sleeve and short sleeve onesies, socks, mittens, bibs, hats
  • DS lived in gowns the first couple of weeks. He was 7lbs, but most of his long-sleeve sleepers were still too big. The gowns made those middle of the night diaper changes very easy. I started out with 2 but ended up buying 3 or 4 more. I think you probably have enough onesies, but I would suggest picking up more gowns or sleepers.
  • We went through about 4 outfits a day at first, and were constantly doing laundry.  I love the gowns and footed sleepers-I'd suggest getting more of those.  We have one swaddler and it's more than enough because DS hates having his arms tied down.  I would also make sure you have appropriate clothing for yourself-I had hardly any nursing tops and I have been wearing DHs pants because mine are all uncomfortable with my incision.
  • Get more gowns. They are so easy for middle of the night diaper changes.
  • i really like the fleecey gowns and footy pjs . . . especially ones with zippers. . . so much easier!

  • We never used the gowns and didn't use a swaddler until DD was about 8 weeks. We used blankets to swaddle her.  Overall, the long sleeved onsies were a pain in the arse. DD wasn't very flexible with her arms and it was hard to change her. We really relied on the footed sleepers for the first several weeks.  Good luck! :-)

  • Side snap tees were definite necessities for us. ?I still haven't put anything over DS's head and haven't used any of our onesies. ?We live in side snap tees, gowns, and footed sleepers. ?I would definitely take the receiving blankets from the hospital, or at least make sure you have some of those for swaddling. ?I also liked the Halo sleepsack with swaddle wings in the beginning.
