I'm going in Monday night for an induction. They are going to start me off with some Cervadil I think it is to ripen up my cervix. I'm just curious how long your total induction took and if you just started out with pitocin or had any type of cervical ripening before? I'm just trying to prepare myself for what to expect! Thanks!
EDIT: OH and how much dilated/effaced were you before starting the induction?
Re: If you were induced can you answer a few ?'s?
I was induced with cervidil and pitocin. it was 23 hours from cervidil insertion to delivery. 19 hours of active labor.
I was not dilated or effaced at the time of induction.
I was 2-3 cm, 50% effaced and my cervix was still very posterior (which really made cervical exams hurt!)
Because I was already dilated and effaced some, we went straight to Pitocin. It took me about 24 hours to dilate to 10 cm.
You should be prepared for the possibility of a c/s, though hopefully you won't need one!
I had a successful induction, was 3cm and almost fully effaced - was started on Pitocin at about 8 in the morning, delivered just before 6PM. I got an epidural around 4cm (after they broke ny water). I would have delivered sooner but the baby got "stuck" because I didn't pee the entire time I was there (because I had the epi, I never felt the urge!). Once they emptied my bladder I went from 5cm - 9cm in a matter of 2 hours!
I had an induction. My hospital will only perform what is called a Foley Bulb induction, where they place a catheter thru your cervix into your uterus and fill a small bulb on the end with saline. What it is suppose to do is dilate your cervix to about 3 cm, then it falls out, my dr. would then break my water and start me on pit. They were unable to get the Foley Bulb in- I have NEVER felt pain like that before- and my dr. decided to start pit at 11 pm and keep me on it till the morning to see if I dilated.
Needless to say, I never got past 1 cm, even after they inserted the Foley Bulb (AFTER an epidural, I might add) and my c-section was performed the next afternoon and DD was born at 3:27 pm.
FYI- my hopsital does not offer ANY other methods of induction besides the Foley Bulb- no cervidil or Cyotek.
ETA- I was not dilated or effaced AT ALL when I was admitted for my induction.
I was a fingertip dilated, not effaced hardly at all. I was 40w4d pregnant and induced due to borderline/high BP and severe swelling.
I went in at 4pm Monday night, Cervadil was entered at 5:30pm, cramping started at 6:30pm, about an hour later I started irregular contractions that continued through the night (got stronger over night), about 1:00am I got my first dose of Stadol, a pain drug in my IV that was HEAVEN! I fell asleep immediately for about an hour, it was great. At 4:00am I got my 2nd dose of Stadol, it wasn't that effective as my contractions were stronger. At 6:00am the Cervadil was removed and I was only 1cm dilated, hardly effaced, baby at -3 station still. Pitocin was started. At 8:00am I got my epidural, at 8:30am my OB broke my water, I was 2-3cm, 50% effaced, baby at -3 still. At 10:30am I started feeling horrible pressure, I was put on my left side and my leg was raised up for about an hour, this moved the baby down. I then felt the worst pain (extreme pressure really, but it was worse than actual pain!) from the baby moving down....I coudn't push yet as I wasn't fully dilated but now understood when everyone said they had the "urge to push"....I never understood until then! It was like having to hold in diarreah, like you had to go really bad but you couldn't....it was horrible, lol! At 11:30am I was 8-9cm, at 12:45pm I started pushing.....20 minutes later she was born!
A very successful induction (I was convinced I would have a c-section since I had no progress when I went in) It was 19 hours from start to finish, but I think that's pretty good starting at almost no progress! Good luck!!!I was between 1-2 cms and about 70% effaced. They didn't do cervadil. I went in the morning and they broke my water and started pitocin. My whole labor was only 6.5 hours and only about 25 minutes of pushing. It was definitely successful and a good experience.
GL!!!!
I was 41 wks and only 1cm dilated before my induction.
They started me on cytotec at midnight and then another does around 4am. They then started me on pitocin at 7 am. I had DD at 9:50 am. They made me wait 30 min to push because we were waiting on my OB to get there.
Good Luck!
I went in the Wednesday morning before my induction for my last appt and I was 3cm (the week before I was completely closed) so they cancelled the cervix ripening overnight and had me come in Thursday morning at 6am. doctor came in at 6:30 to check me and I was 4.5cm without noticeable contractions. The doctor broke my water and started pitocin (oh he was at a -1 station). At 7:30 I got my epidural and at 8:15 I was fully dilated and -2 station. At 9 i started pushing (I had to wait b/c the doc was in a csection and the room wasn't ready for delivery. He was born at 9:33am. I was 38w4days.
G/L!!!
HOLY CRAP! I hope mine goes like this lol! So lucky
Thanks mama
I can't wait to join you! I really miss seeing you around!
Induced at 41 weeks, went in 50% effaced and not dilated at all.
I went in at noon on Monday for a cervical ripening gel (prostaglandin gel, my hospital doesn't use cervidil), and then went back at 1 am on Tuesday to start the Pitocin. When I went back in at 1, I was already contracting regularly on my own from the gel - that was cool. They started the Pitocin at 4 am, and increased it steadily until Wednesday at 6 am when I started pushing. Pushed for 3.5 hours, when we realized his head was way too big to come out vaginally. C/S and he was born at 10:19.
But like Hot Mayo said - don't think my story is "average." I think lots of girls on here have great, and quick, inductions
But - be prepared for it to take a while, and labor is boooooring... bring entertainment :-D
GL! So excited for you! Can't wait for you and Jonah to join us over here
How exciting for you!
I was 1 cm dialated (not sure how effaced) and had my membranes swept at 5:30 pm. Started Cervadil at 7:00pm, contractions started soon after 3-5 min apart. Started Pitocin at 7 am, broke my water at 8 am, epi at 9 am, started pushing after 11:00, & she was born at 12:30.
1.5 cm and 50% effaced had Cervidil inserted at 8:00pm Monday night; pitocin started at 4:30am still was 1.5cm and 50% effaced; I got to 5cm and 75% effaced by 4:30pm, she was born via c/s at 7:05pm.

I was a 1 and I don't know about effacing. I got to a 6-7 before I got stuck and had to have c/s
